While creating ceramics takes many steps, the most important ones are always made by hand: trimming, decorating, detailed carving, and giving that perfect final touch to every single item.

Our center focuses predominantly on handmade traditional Khmer art—most notably the timeless tradition of kbach. You might recognize this intricate style from the majestic stone carvings at Angkor Wat and historic temples across Cambodia!

Lotus petals & Leaves, Flames & Water: Our Kbach-style ceramics are lovingly hand-carved with motifs inspired by nature 🌿 Each shape carries a special meaning, allowing every vase, bowl, and decorative piece to tell its own unique story.

Meet John, our IT hero: "My journey with clay actually started when I was a kid! My friends and I used to play with the natural clay we found in the fields, making little sculptures and firing them with wood. Being here today, I am so happy to reconnect with clay.

I have been working here for two years, helping with the website, design, and printing. When I started, I practiced pottery every day for a month to master the wheel, and then became a teacher as well.

I love the community here and the fact that I get to do so many different things. Plus, I’m given time to research and train during my work hours so I can grow in my role. I also like getting to meet the customers. I truly think pottery is the best way to release stress—you don’t need to master it; you can just come in on the weekends, put your music on and enjoy."

Meet Jamie, who have been perfecting her dinosaurs carving skills, inspired by her son: " I grew up in a society where everything needed to be deconstructed and intellectualized, and I often felt disconnected. Working with my hands changes that. Creating something physical helps me feel connected to myself.

Khmer Ceramics gave me the chance to learn. It showed me that not everything can be self taught. Having a teacher helps me progress quickly and changes the entire experience. I surprise myself with how much I’ve learned in such a short time.

It also feels like a step toward something bigger. I’ve always wanted to build my own home, and this is part of that, since I’m making things that belong in a home: plates, cups, trays, and I can give them as gifts. They’re meaningful because I’ve made them from the heart.

Instead of just consuming, I’m creating. Instead of holding on to things, I’m sharing them. 💛"
