Why should you wash your face with cleanser instead of soap?
All of us, almost everyone, are frustrated with dry, dehydrated, sensitive, oily and acne-prone skin. That is the common situation of many people!
In fact, skin health has a direct relationship with the balance between acidity and alkalinity, as measured by the pH scale. All soaps, lotions, cleansers, and other skin care products have an effect on the pH of your skin.
How does pH work?
The pH is measured on a scale of 0 to 14: level 0 is acidic, 14 is alkaline, 7 is neutral equivalent to the pH of pure water.
Normally, the surface of human skin is covered with a mixture of sebum, oil, and sweat. This coating is known as the acid mantle that helps protect the skin and retain moisture. Adult human skin is mildly acidic with a pH level between 5.4 and 5.9.
When the pH is too alkaline, the skin becomes dry and sensitive, leading to signs of skin aging such as wrinkles.
What is your skin's pH level?
Usually, you can easily determine the pH of your skin by observing the skin's expression. For example, if you have acne-prone skin, chances are your skin is too acidic, and if your skin tends to be dry, sensitive that means it's too alkaline.
👉 Reasons to use face wash instead of soap!
Soaps have a general pH level of 9 to 10, which can make your skin feel very clean, but leaves it dry and dehydrated. It removes all the natural oils from your skin making the pH too alkaline. This can cause a whole new set of problems – the skin becomes dry, flaky, and prone to inflammation. Causes the sebaceous glands to overproduce oil to compensate for the dryness that causes clogged pores and surfaces. When the skin is too dry and uneven, it can also lead to wrinkles.
