Silk is made from the cocoons of caterpillars which would later become moths, the caterpillars feed only on the mulberry tree. They weave their cocoons around themselves with a very fine silken thread. It takes 3 kilos of silk cocoons to produce 2 kilo of silk thread. Unimaginably, from one single cocoon, between 800-1200 meters of silk thread can be made.
