Please enjoy this once in a lifetime antique Khoy Forest Carpet ๐ŸŒณ from the extreme northwest of Persia. The attractive tree ๐ŸŒฒ layout & the stunning colors make it unique.

Unique for its glittering, glimmering green
Highly decorative, supremely collectible

As my clients and regular followers know, there is no natural and immediate green dye. But the colors on this masterpiece are all natural and vegetal, so whatโ€™s up?

Natural green dye exists but is not direct ie it is a combination of other natural dyes.

๐Ÿ’™โž•๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŸฐ๐Ÿ’š

In this case it is indigo blue mixed with natural yellow, which is found in many plants of which 95%+ oxidise and fade quickly (so the green turns to blue in a few years when the yellow fades out due to natural oxidation). The trick is to find a yellow that sticks and stays. Very few premodern communities figured that out. Hence why we almost never see old rugs with green as the main color. Except in Farahan (famous) and Khoy (still understudied).

The ultimate mark of luxury, rarity & finesse across the entire history of Persian carpets. So few were made, so scarce to find today. Indeed at any time in history.

Dyeing silk with saffron was an expensive, testing task. It was reserved for only the best of the best. Iโ€™ve been around the market for 40 years and my familyโ€™s been at this game for 115; my firsthand experience and our archives show we havenโ€™t encountered ๐Ÿ”Ÿ of these superheroes in all that time!

Saying goodbye to this museum level Qajar Kerman, depicting Nader Shah Afshar. Itโ€™s in a noble collection in Paris now ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท and is as royal as it gets.

It belonged to the famous Qajar Prince Abdol Hossein Mirza, commander of the army, and first cousin to Nassereddine Shah. Farman Farmaian.

Dated 1326 = 1908.
