An asphalt road is not just a single layer of asphalt. It is a multi-layer system, where each layer has a specific function. Proper layer construction ensures strength, durability, and long service life of the road.

1️⃣ Subgrade

What it is: Natural soil prepared to support the road structure.

Purpose:

Acts as the foundation of the road

Transfers traffic loads to the ground

Key Points:

Must be well compacted

Weak subgrade = early road failure

What it is: A layer of granular material placed above the subgrade.

Purpose:

Recommended Grade: 👉 MC (Medium Curing)

Why?

MC bitumen penetrates deeply into the granular base

MC-30 → Open / absorptive bases

MC-70 → Dense / well-compacted bases
