Thilo Hoffmann; A Swiss national with an MSc,who came to Srilanka in 1946 and became a leading conservationist in Sri Lanka,during his nearly 70 years service in the island..He was President of The SriLanka Wildlife and Nature Protection Society in Sri Lanka for over 11 years.As per his achievements he gave leadership. to save Sinharaja Rain Forest from exploitation in 1972. He helped in establishing four (04) new National Parks in the Mahaweli Region.; establishment of Wilpattu West Sanctuary, creation of Buffer Zones etc.Also he pioneered the Establishment of Student Nature Clubs in schools.. He was conferred the title of Lanka Ratne by H.E the President of Sri Lanka in 2004. for services rendered to protect the environment in Sri Lanka.He retired as Chairman of A Baur & Co. Ltd.
3. The Author; Douglas B. Ranasinghe is a BSc and a holder of a Postgraduate Diploma in Statistics.. He is a leading conservationist and a writer on Nature , Conservation and Exploration in Sri Lanka.He was President of WNPS for 03 year and close upon 40 years in the Gen. Committee of WNPS .He was Editor of `Warana` the first Sinhala Environment Magazine for over 35 years.He was awarded the H. E the Presidents Environmental award in 2004. He retired as the Additional Managing Director Of Sri Lanka Ports Authority
