The Story of the Bamboo and the Fern
A man who had spent years trying to build his dream finally gave up. Exhausted by failure, he walked deep into the forest to say a final prayer and walk away from it all.
"Tell me," the man asked the universe, "is there any reason to keep trying?"
A voice from the canopy answered him: "Look around you. Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"
"I do," the man sighed.
"Years ago, I planted their seeds at the exact same time," the voice said. "I gave them both the same water, the same soil, and the same sunlight. Within weeks, the fern quickly grew from the earth. Its vibrant green leaves covered the forest floor in beautiful patterns. Everyone admired it."
"But the bamboo seed produced nothing. Yet, I did not give up on it."
"In the second, third, and fourth years, the fern grew even more lush, vibrant, and beautiful. But from the bamboo seed, there was still nothing. Still, I did not give up on it."
"Then, in the fifth year, a tiny, fragile green sprout broke through the soil. And within just six weeks, that sprout shot up over 80 feet into the sky."
The man looked up at the towering bamboo, amazed.
The voice spoke gently: "Do you know what it was doing for those five years? It was growing its roots. It was spending all its energy anchoring itself deep into the earth, preparing to support the massive growth that was coming."
"You are the bamboo. Every time you struggle, every time you think you are failing, you are actually just growing your roots. Your time to rise will come."
The man stood up, brushed the dirt off his clothes, and walked out of the forest, ready to begin again.
