Lets call it.. Almost. 🐿️💫
I had been looking forward to finishing this half-tear project for so long. It was almost there - but finished a bit sooner than I expected.. Yesterday I opened the kiln to find out that one of the cups did not survive the re-firing. It was the last step before they should’ve been gold fired (imagine the golden line traveling around the animals, and the rim!).
As a ceramicist, I know I shouldn’t get too attached to anything I make, and it can be lost during any stage of making. Yet, of all the projects, this touches me a lot..
It started as a fun idea to paint my partner’s favorite animals on a cup for his morning coffee and turned into a full-on project of a set of two. Animal motifs and picture painting was never my preferred style in ceramics, but ohh I had soo much fun designing the composition and painting every one of those furry, feathery creatures. 😌
This was my first time painting with underglaze on porcelain, trying to use three different glazes and create “windows” for the animals to peek through. I did not know how it will turn out. It mostly worked.. The good side is - I learned a lot in the process.
Now the question is - shall I take the knowledge I learned and try to remake them, or shall I just move on..?
