Jan Jelinek [DE]
Jan Jelinek's work deals with the transformation of sounds, translating source materials from popular music into abstract, reduced textures. He constructs collages using tiny sound fragments from a wide variety of recording devices: tape recorders, digital samplers, media players and more. His recordings are processed into repetitive loops that boil the original down to its essentials. With a trajectory in electronic music spanning more than 20 years, Jelinek has touched upon abstract house music through his work as Farben, was one of the originators of the glitch sound in both house and experimental electronics through his landmark Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records album and has since established the essential Faitiche record label, releasing his own work as well as numerous collaborations with people like Asuna, Masayoshi Fujita, etc, and acclaimed records by Ursula Bogner, Andrew Pekler, Frank Bretschneider and more.
Arthur Clees [LU]
Arthur Clees started playing the cello at a young age before moving to percussion. His original background was in classical music, but he soon developed an interest in jazz and improv. He also experiments with electronic music, producing his own tracks. He co- founded the alternative jazz quartet Jambal, releasing an EP earlier this year. Having graduated high school this summer, Clees has just started studying jazz composition at the HfM in Dresden where he aims to combine the world of electronics with the art of jazz in his original compositions and further develop his artistic perspective.
Both performers have never met each other before and will play an improv session that will be recorded.
