In the occidentale imaginary, Asia, and most particularly China has always been seen as a place of wonders and legends. The cultural differences and the distance was propice to the most extravagant "élucubrations", and the prowesses of the Chinese industry nourished the most profound admiration. This is why I decided to start this serie of blogposts where I will display some of the most impactful inventions from China.

Printing is possibly the most influencial creation of humanity, the capacity to copy a text without having to spend days doing so manually, has enabled the remote spread of information and thoughts around the world. invented around the year 200, woodblock printing was the first "industria" machinery dedicated to printing, it enabled the growth of the books market in Asia, and the technique was quickly used by the christians to spread the word of god.

As of today this technic is outdated, however, the idea behind it changed the world, and made it as we know it today.

Blackpowder was invented during the 9th century by taoist monks, originally for medicinal purposes. However the explosive properties of this material, which were unprecedented at the time quickly showed applications in warfare setups.

This mixture of sulfur, charcoal and potassium nitrate spread through the known world during the XIII century and changed the best practices in terms of war forever, opening new tactical strategies and enabling anyone who could aim with the power to kill.

"Early in the Han Dynasty, between 300–200 BC, the Chinese fashioned a rudimentary compass out of lodestone " these discovery enabled the Chinese navigators to indicate the south with precision and navigate safely by day or night. This quickly gave an advantage to the chinese in terms of navigation, and it was the most efficient way to know the position of the boat
in conjonction with the reading of the stars. This technic was only supplanted in year 1300, and has been for a long time the "compass" of humanity.
