This looks very much like a vintage Moroccan rug from the Middle Atlas — most likely a Beni M’Guild piece rather than a Beni Ouarain.
The clues are:
* the extraordinarily saturated electric/cobalt blue field
* the dense, almost shimmering abrash and color variation
* the looser tribal diamond motifs
* the softer, drapier wool structure
* and the long, elegant proportions
Beni M’Guild rugs were woven by Amazigh (Berber) tribes around the regions of Khenifra and the Middle Atlas mountains. Older examples from the 1960s–1980s often used strong jewel tones — deep blues, purples, magentas, reds — especially pieces intended for colder mountain homes where heavier pile and richer color were appreciated.
This particular blue is quite special. It has that almost “night-sky” indigo tone collectors love. The asymmetry and movement in the motifs are also a good sign of an authentic tribal weaving rather than a later commercial reproduction.
The slightly irregular outline and faded/saturated interplay suggest age and hand-dyed wool. I would not be surprised if this is:
* circa 1970s–1980s
* natural wool with synthetic/aniline blue dyes (common and now highly collectible in vintage Moroccan rugs)
* woven as a sleeping or winter carpet
The overall feeling is very much in the family of:
* Beni M’Guild
* possibly Aït Seghrouchen influence
* or a transitional Middle Atlas tribal weaving
Visually, it has that wonderful “floating” energy good Moroccan rugs have — almost painterly rather than geometric.
In Europe, pieces with this depth of blue and strong visual character are very sought after right now, especially by interior designers.
