April for us is not just a month of spring, awakening, and renewal. It is also the birth month of our store, which opened its doors to visitors on April 22, 2012.
I still remember my exciting feeling that day when Ihave been packing the first purchase – a handmade magnet.
The shop door was always open, and of course, the local cats immediately showed interest in us. They were especially drawn to the olive wood products.
Perhaps the distinctive, oily scent of this particular wood excited them and lured them on distant journeys, recalling from their genetic memory the ancient wooden ships that transported barrels of olive oil, and along with them, the ship's cats that exterminated rats and mice.
Kittens were picked up from the shores in different countries, and then, out of natural curiosity, the adult cats would stay in a foreign land – this is how the ancestors of Egyptian Sphynxes, Russian Blue cats, and striped tabbies ended up in our region.
We start getting ready for the season as early as September-October. Usually, we are brainstorming to develop a design before approaching the artisan. It's a journey from concept to creation: an idea, a sketch, samples, a decision to move forward or tweak things, and then the final product that needs to be carefully delivered and artfully arranged on the shelf. Sometime happens that an idea might be put on hold for a year or two until it's fully born.
Does our shop have any secrets? Of course, like any living thing. Our regular customers have told us that the purchase of one of our cats, whether textile or ceramic, has brought them happy changes in their lives – some have found a job, some have found their soulmate, and some have seen their dreams come true. That's why we started calling ourselves as the Shop of Good Luck Cats.
And finally, over these fifteen years, we've met a huge number of wonderful people and believe that there are no truly evil people. There are those who haven't found themselves, their calling, their soulmate, or, finally, their cat.
So, welcome to Kotor for our 15th tourist season!
