The Assumption Of Our Lady is one of the most important feasts in Malta. It is celebrated in 11 Churches, 8 on the 15th August, which is a holiday of obligation, and 3 on the following weekend.
The Parish Church in B'Kara is known as the Old Church and is located just outside the historic part of B'Kara. It was built in various phases between 1615 and 1679. In 1782 it did not remain a Parish, fell into disuse and started to suffer a lot of structural damage. In 1969 restoration works were started and they are still not fully completed, however it became a Parish once again in 2005.
St Mary's Parish Church in Gudja is a very old Parish. The current Church is the second one dedicated to St Mary and it was finished in 1666, though further construction in 1858 added a 3rd bell tower, the only Church in Malta with 3 bell towers.
We have available the titular statue of many of these 11 Parishes, all made of plaster.
The statue of Gudja, made of plaster, is 50cm high. We do not have the one of B'Kara.
