Helgard had once a dream of opening a boutique hotel in San Miguel de Allende but moved instead to Ajijic in 1976. She worked first as an employee at Mi México and later, after taking over the business, introduced the famous San Miguel Shoes to the expat community of Ajijic.

Helgard‘s best friend, Lore, worked for Mi Mexico in the mid 90‘s. She was originally from 🇩🇪, therefore they all talked in German, since Otto was from Austria 🇦🇹
