Thirty miles offshore, everything changed in a matter of minutes.
One minute we’re fishing, the next we’re staring at 45–50 knot winds, absolutely insane rain, thunder cracking around us and lightning lighting up the entire sky.
There wasn’t anything to debate. We picked everything up, pointed the Right Rigger toward San José del Cabo and hauled ass for the marina to get ourselves and everyone onboard somewhere safe.
This is the part of offshore fishing people don’t see on Instagram. The ocean doesn’t give a s**t how experienced you are, how good your boat is, or what the forecast said that morning. Conditions can go from manageable to dangerous incredibly fast.
Unfortunately, this storm was much more than just a wild ride home. There are reports of boats still unaccounted for, a boat overturned, and tragically, a life lost.
We made it in safely. Not everyone was as fortunate.
Respect the ocean. Respect the weather. And when Mother Nature tells you it’s time to go, you fu***ng go.
