Around 1% of the garnets has a different color , the Lovely rose of Grossular rosolite garnet !

The host rock is volcanic Andesite -Dacite. It is about a 35 million years old magmatic regional event involving extensive eruptions, as well lava flows throughout this northern part of Mexico, Ignimbrites and Rhyolites rocks are commonly seen in this area , though obsidian is absent, mostly due to high silica content of the lava

Understanding their genesis , This is a complex issue, fault structures in the area and the hydothermal injection of fluids into the andesites providing minerals in solution to the hollow chambers with host rock

The agates are very sparse with in the mine site requiring thousands of tons of overburden to be removed. Big toys are required to do this, consuming thousand of dollars of fuel each day with only bucket or two of agates being yielded in the process.
