The artisans of the workshop Female Weaver of Yoo'kua use a traditional backstrap loom technique, a method deeply rooted in Oaxaca's cultural history. 🧵
This technique involves stretching the threads of the fabric with wooden sticks, tying one end to an immobile object (such as a tree) and the other end to the weaver's waist. Originating from various regions of Oaxaca, this method is not only used to create intricate fabrics but also to embroider stunning brocade patterns.
The vibrant designs are crafted using threads dyed with natural dyes, such as nanche bark, guava leaves, Brazilwood, cochineal, and indigo.
Each piece is a testament to the skill and dedication of our artisans, preserving the beauty and tradition of Oaxacan craftsmanship.
