If you haven’t heard by now, those in the know are predicting a “Godzilla El Nino” this year. After the last six months, that’s becoming more obvious by the day. Right now, we’re seeing close to 80-degree water temperatures and it’s very early in the Spring time frame for this. A few weeks ago, we were seeing 650 lbs. Black Marlin at Corbetena. Now, the Marlin numbers are thin at best. As a general rule, the water temperatures and frankly the air temperatures are more like Mid-May and not April. This of course means we’re moving into a period where our winter species are still here, and it’s too early for the Summer Species to come in. Remembering we have the transition period from Mid-May to the last week of July, we’re wondering what’s going to happen to our fishing season. For those lucky enough to be in Puerto Vallarta right now, you’ll still find arm burning action in the bay. On the other hand, the fishing is widely spread out. So here we are again, scratching our head and asking the Ouija board where to go!

As I sit here in Puerto Vallarta, it makes me sick I'm not in Venice Beach, California where I grew up with my core friends. At times like this living in Mexico, where there are no celebrations for Americas 250th Anniversary of it's Independence, is a little sterile. But I'd like to take this opportunity to send a message into the universe and salute the American People and Our Founding Fathers of the American Revolution of 1776. Including the Flag and All of those who fought in WWII against Communism, Facasism, Germany, Japan, Italy and those who fought in every conflict after that up until today! My heart, my mind and my spirit is with you all as I eat a hotdog in Honor of America, watching the fireworks show on TV here in PV. God Bless America and all those who support freedom, Liberty and the American Way. Especially now in Americas 250th Birth of a Nation! As you look at the picture of Washington Crossing the Delaware, the American Militia an Army were on their last legs and about to lose the war to England. Washington, in horrible, freezing weather gathered what was left of his troops and decided to attack the English in a surprise attack that frankly had little chance of success. But the fighting men knew what failure meant and it became one of the Greatest Victories America ever had with the Greatest Leader in American History. As I miss my friends and family here in PV, I am deeply grateful for those who sacrificed their familes, risked their lives and ultimately succeeded so we all could live with freedom of speech, ownership of property and the ability to have an opinion. God bless American, the land that I love....

To All My Friends in the United States of America, Venice Friends, College Friends, Business friends.... I wish I could be with you all tomorrow, it makes me sick I can't be in America for all of this. But I will celebrate, all be it alone, here in Puerto Vallarta grateful for all the opportunities, Education and love of family, friends and Country. Someone please send me a picture of you having a b**r, a hot dog or Hamburger in my honor! Happy 250th America from on of your expat sons!

Master Baiters Sportfishing & Tackle Fish Pic of the Day: This is a Sierra Mackerel. The Mackerels my brother and I used to catch in California are a completely different species. This Mackeral is a smaller species, but they taste great and have a pinkish meat. People in the northern countries of Europe love these canned and ready to go. One interesting thing about this species is they're primarily a winter species, but will be in the shore area's for most of the year. When other species like Marlin or Dorado will have a later bite, which means they'll take a bait at a certain time, Sierra's like to take baits or their bite is earlier in the morning. Normally you'll find them in the Marina entrance, easy to find. But they like to take baits early in the morning, before 08:00 normally. That means you can target these smaller pescado or fish, then head to the deep water fishing grounds and double your catch. Personally, I've been known to go out in the bay and catch my limit. And to be honest, there is no "limit" so you boat what you'll use and save the rest for a later day. The boat captains like to catch a few in the morning and then make Ceviche fresh in the morning. Ceviche for breakfast, one way to know you're in Puerto Vallarta. They're a great catch for the younger crowd and tasty for guys like me...

Master Baiter's Fish Pic of the Day: This is an Arctic Bonito. It's not the Bonito in California, Arctic Bonito are cousins of Tuna. They're not only bait, they're flavorful and I confess, I eat the bait all the time. A bit Bonito like this one can be up to 20 lbs or a bit larger. You'll find these all over the bay and surrounding areas including the deep water fishing grounds. They're a great catch for younger anglers or for those who want to catch a "bunch" of fish in the bay. Marlin and Tuna love them and the babies or "Bullet Bonito" are even batter bait for Dorado and Sailfish. So don't avoid this strong fighting species.

Corbetena and El Banco, some of the best fishing int he world: In the world of fishing Puerto Vallarta (pronounced Puerto Viarta) seems to be the land Fisherman and fishing publications have forgotten. Famous from the time Puerto Vallarta was a Puebla, PV is known for some of, if not the best fishing in all of Mexico. Famous for Huge Black Marlin, Monster “World Record Possible” Yellowfin Tuna, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Striped Marlin and the list goes on. Naturally depending on the season will determine the Gamefish available. Puerto Vallarta (PV) has several personalities in the form of changing seasons and species making the entire area a fishing wonderland throughout the year. PV is perfect for the beginner angler to the professional.

Take El Banco or the Bank. I always say “they’re bigger at The Bank”. Located 50 miles north of PV it’s essentially a few sharp peaks, similar to a Stalagmites coming up from an underwater mountain range. The peaks of these Stalagmites are about 60 ft under the surface of the ocean. You need...

Water temperatures have dropped, and that’s a good thing since they were too high for the season we’re in. Conditions now have calmed down, water temperatures are back where they should be and there is plenty of high visibility blue water. So, conditions are perfect, plenty of bait, the only thing missing is you!

There have been two incidents in about the same location... The Croc Numbers have been noticeably increasing in the Marina Vallarta. For some reason they're protected, which doesn't make much sense in a tourism area... one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and PV is doing nothing about it!

Police said a 28-year-old Mexican man was killed when a crocodile attacked and dragged him into the sea on Friday in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
