With deep sadness, we mourn the passing of Dr. Gunther von Hagens (1945–2026), the inventor of plastination and creator of BODY WORLDS.
With the invention of plastination in 1977, he transformed the field of anatomy and gave millions of people a unique insight into the human body. Together with Dr. Angelina Whalley, he created the BODY WORLDS exhibitions, which have inspired more than 58 million visitors around the world.
His life's work stands for science, education, and the belief that understanding our own bodies can lead to healthier, more conscious lives.
His legacy lives on—in scientific research, in the BODY WORLDS exhibitions, and in the memories of millions of people whose lives he touched.
Our thoughts are with his family and all those who knew and loved him.
