Is it because the owner took good care of it, or is Adam’s effort finally showing results?

A few days ago, a long-time customer sent in a reel for service. When I checked the bottom of the reel, the old sticker was still there — Adam’s very first version from about 6–7 years ago. Back then, I had just started making stickers. The design wasn’t great, and everything was placed on the outside. Now, it’s upgraded — all stickers are placed inside with dates, making it easier to monitor.

When I opened the reel, it was really satisfying. The internal condition was very clean — clearly the owner took good care of it and kept it away from water. Only the old grease had started to harden and thicken, so it needed cleaning and replacement.

That made me think… it’s actually worth it spending up to an hour with walk-in customers just to teach them how to properly take care of their reels.

Alhamdulillah, that small effort is finally showing results.

All of this doesn’t happen in just a year or two… it’s the outcome of long-term effort.

Sometimes it’s not easy to change people’s habits — especially things they’ve been doing for years, even if it’s actually wrong. When we advise, it’s not to show we know better, but because we don’t want others to repeat the same mistakes.

Today it may seem small… but a few years down the road, you’ll see the difference.

And when that time comes, you’ll understand — the right knowledge always has its value.

In a reel:

* Shaft = steel (hard metal)
* Thread nut = copper / brass (softer metal)

❗ When you lock the drag too tight:

* The steel shaft will “eat” the copper thread
* Because copper is softer → it wears out faster
* End result: drag becomes loose & not smooth

Sometimes when friends ask questions, it’s hard to explain because we don’t have that specific model in hand to make a video.

So why is it so important to spool your line the correct way?

1️⃣ Reel Meter Reading

Every reel actually needs to be “taught”:

* how many meters of line
* what size of line you are putting in

That’s why sometimes you’ll see your reel meter reading is different from your friend’s.

But here’s the thing:
👉 It’s almost impossible to get 100% the same reading for everyone on the boat.
There will always be slight differences (+/- a few meters).

Why?
Because it’s very hard to get a braided line that is perfectly consistent in thickness throughout the entire 500 meters.

👉 So treat the meter as a reference only.
I follow my reel meter, you follow yours.
We’re not working for the land survey department 😄

2️⃣ Protecting the Motor

When you spool the line correctly:

* The reel has a “baseline” to detect line density
* If the load is too heavy, the motor will stop automatically to cool down before running again

👉 This helps prevent the motor from burning out.

Common mistakes:

* Buying a small reel
* Worried the line won’t be enough
* Pulling the line as tight as possible while spooling to fit more
