The best education happens when school and home walk together. ❤️

At MuhsinKids, we believe that giving our Muhsineen the right start in reading is not about rushing them to read as early as possible. It is about helping them become confident, joyful and lifelong learners.

Learning to read needs to be done right — using proven approaches, while keeping the child at the heart of the learning process. And when we talk about building a strong foundation, we don’t mean putting pressure on young children. Strong is different from stressful.

That is why, Alhamdulillah, we conducted two “One System, Two Languages” workshops this year to share our literacy approach with parents. We want parents to understand not only what we do at school, but also why we do it — and how they can continue the same positive reading experiences at home.

For our 4–6-year-olds, we believe learning should be age-appropriate, meaningful and joyful, while still giving them the foundations they need to grow.

Because when school and home work together, children receive a consistent message:

✅ Reading is not something we have to fear.
✅ Reading is something we can enjoy.
✅ And learning is something we can love for life.

Alhamdulillah for parents who choose to walk this journey with us. Together, we can give our Muhsineen the right start — not just to become readers, but to become lifelong learners. 🥰

Alhamdulillah 🥰

Kami sering menerima pertanyaan guru-guru tadika dan tahap 1 yang baru memulakan aktiviti ‘read aloud’ bersama anak murid,

“Bagaimana saya hendak bacakan buku sekiranya mereka tidak boleh duduk diam?”

Jawapannya..

Konsisten ✅

‘Shared reading’ perlu dilakukan secara konsisten, setiap hari. Di rumah dan di sekolah. Daya fokus kanak-kanak tidak akan meningkat secara mendadak dalam masa seminggu. Apatah lagi di dalam satu sesi.

Kebolehan mendengar dan fokus dapat ditingkatkan apabila kanak-kanak sendiri merasai ‘kemanisan’ mendengar cerita tersebut. Apabila cerita di buku bukan sahaja tamat apabila buku dikatup, tetapi cerita tersebut berterusan di dalam explorasi sebenar yang mereka lakukan di sekolah, dan di rumah..

Kanak-kanak ‘tertawan’ apabila mereka dijemput untuk turut serta memberi pendapat dan berfikir secara aktif semasa pembacaan bersama dilakukan.

Apabila sudah terbiasa, yakni fokus sudah di tahap yang baik, aktiviti lain seperti mendengar cerita, pembentangan rakan-rakan, pembelajaran di dalam kelas in sha Allah dapat berjalan dengan tenang dan lancar.

Perlu ada strategi dari awal..
✅ Jenis buku yang dibacakan
✅ Tempoh masa pembacaan bersama (shared reading)
✅ Jenis soalan yang diajukan
✅ Penyusunan explorasi sebelum dan selepas pembacaan buku
✅ Buku-buku seterusnya yang mempunyai cerita/mesej berkaitan.
Dan banyak lagi..

Maka,

Guru-guru tadika.. Jangan putus asa sekiranya sesi pertama menghampakan. Tarik nafas, susun strategi, fahami anak-anak murid, dan laksanakan berterusan secara bertahap… setiap hari.

Speaking and presentation skills are important skills for the 21st century. But the truth is, speaking in front of others isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

So, why wait until high school or adulthood to start?

Just like any other skill, the more children practise, the more comfortable they become. What feels scary or stressful at first slowly becomes something they can do with confidence.

At MuhsinKids, we want our children to grow up feeling comfortable sharing their thoughts, ideas and stories with others. And just as importantly, we want them to learn how to listen — to listen to their friends, appreciate different ideas and respect the person who is speaking.

In the month of August, our Muhsineen had the chance to present the project they worked on with their families at home — their very first invented home!

And look at them… standing in front of their friends and confidently sharing what they created. Some were more expressive, some were a little quieter, but every single one had a voice to share.

We are so proud of our little Muhsineen, some as young as 4 years old, for taking that brave little step. 🥹❤️

Remember, ages 4–6 are such an important period for language development. When we give children the time, space and encouragement to express themselves, we are not just helping them become better speakers..

We are helping them find their voice — and teaching them that their voice matters!

Drawing Freely — and Learning From Experts 🎨

At MuhsinKids, encouraging children to draw freely is an important part of how we nurture creativity.

We want children to draw their ideas, imagination and observations without constantly worrying about whether their drawings are “correct” or look like someone else’s.

But does that mean we should never teach them techniques?

Absolutely not. 😊

There is also great value in learning from someone who has already mastered a skill. An expert can introduce children to techniques, strategies and ways of doing things that may take much longer to discover on their own.

This is where scaffolding comes in.

Scaffolding means providing children with the right amount of support to help them do something they may not yet be able to do independently. We demonstrate, guide and give them techniques—then gradually step back as their skills and confidence grow.

The goal isn’t for children to copy an adult’s work.

The goal is to equip them with new tools and techniques so they can take their own ideas further. 🌱

And that’s exactly what we wanted to do when our Muhsineen showed a strong interest in exploring Malaysian animals during August and September.

We invited children’s book illustrator and author, Puan Anis Puteri, to spend time with them and guide them in drawing two of our amazing Malaysian animals—the Malayan Tiger 🐯 and the monkey 🐒.

They learned how an illustrator observes shapes, breaks an animal down into simpler forms, uses lines and details, and gradually builds a drawing.

Then comes the exciting part: they can take those techniques and make them their own.

Because creativity isn’t about choosing between freedom and instruction.

This week marks the Closing Phase of our History Project, where our Muhsineen are presenting their House Invention Project—a creation they designed and built together with their families at home.

Last month, the children explored Ancient Egypt and the Orang Asli community. They investigated different types of buildings and homes, from the magnificent pyramids of Ancient Egypt to traditional Orang Asli houses, even visited the Muzium Orang Asli to observe them up close. Inspired by what they learned, each child imagined, designed, and created a house of their own.

Their creations are now displayed in several corners around MK, where learning continues long after the presentations are over. These corners are regularly visited by the children, who excitedly discuss each house with one another, recalling what they learned from their friends’ presentations, connecting it with their own experiences, asking questions, and exchanging ideas.

This is how young children learn best.

They learn when learning is meaningful, when it sparks their curiosity, and when they are active participants in the process. Not by spending the whole day sitting on chairs, listening passively, or completing worksheet after worksheet—but by exploring, investigating, creating, communicating, collaborating, and reflecting on what they have learned.

These are the very skills children need to thrive in the 21st century: curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, confidence, and the ability to solve real-world problems. Academic knowledge remains important, but it becomes far more powerful when children know how to think, not just what to think.

At MuhsinKids, this is why we embrace the Project Approach alongside structured literacy and numeracy learning. We want every child to build strong academic foundations while also developing the confidence and lifelong learning skills they will need for the future.

This August and September, our Muhsineen will be exploring Malaysia through the Project Approach. 🇲🇾

At MuhsinKids, we believe children learn best when they are actively involved in their learning—asking questions, investigating, and making connections with the world around them.

Every project goes through three phases. We begin with Phase 1: Getting Started, where children decide what they want to explore. But before deciding, they first need to do some research!

Research materials can come in many forms, and picture books are among the materials that preschoolers can use to explore and gather information. 📚 Through books, children build background knowledge, spark curiosity, and develop questions that guide their project.

Some books about Malaysia are already ready to be explored by our Muhsineen, and of course, there are many more waiting on the shelves! 🇲🇾✨

“My child can’t read. Maybe it’s just genetics?”

Not always.

While some children have learning differences such as dyslexia, many reading difficulties happen because children never receive systematic reading instruction.

Learning to read doesn’t happen automatically.

Children need to build their skills step by step:

👂 Listen to stories (read aloud)
🎵 Develop phonological awareness (hearing and playing with sounds)
🔤 Learn letters and the sounds they represent
📖 Blend sounds to read words
✍️ Spell and write accurately and fluently

And no—play alone is not enough to build the foundation for reading and writing.

Play is essential for many areas of development, but reading requires explicit teaching because it uses different brain processes.

The best preschool combines meaningful play with structured literacy instruction—giving children the strong foundation they need to become confident readers.

One of the greatest gifts you can give your child is to read aloud to them. 💕

Reading aloud is much more than a bedtime routine.

Research consistently shows that children who are regularly read to develop stronger language, vocabulary, listening, communication, comprehension, and early literacy skills. It also nurtures imagination, strengthens the parent-child bond, and lays the foundation for future reading success.

But here’s something many parents worry about…

“My child can’t sit still.”

“My child loses interest after a few pages.”

This is completely normal.

Listening to stories is a skill. It requires attention, self-regulation, memory, and comprehension—abilities that develop gradually through repeated practice.

So don’t expect your child to sit and listen for 20 minutes when they’re just starting.

Instead:
✨ Start with short, simple books.
✨ Read with expression.
✨ Let your child interact with the story.
✨ Gradually introduce longer and more complex books.

The key is consistency.

Read aloud every day—at home and at school. Even just 10–15 minutes daily helps build your child’s attention span, listening stamina, vocabulary, and story comprehension over time.

If possible, start from birth and continue throughout childhood.

One day, you’ll see the results—not just in your child’s reading ability, but in their thinking, communication, curiosity, confidence, and love for learning. ❤️
