🎶 "Every rehearsal, I sat at the back."
Not because I was shy.
But because the trombone sound has to cut through the entire band — from the back row, all the way to the front.
On the last rehearsal before graduation, our conductor said:
"Trombones… stay steady."
I thought to myself: I've been steady for 5 years.
This time, I made sure I was extra steady.
Because I knew — this was the last time I'd be holding the band's rhythm together on this school instrument.
Trombone players don't cry easily.
Because your slide hand needs to stay smooth, and tears make your grip slip.
But when I opened my case for the last time, I found a tiny sequin stuck inside — from our last concert.
We always hold the fort. But we're rarely in the spotlight.
And that's okay.
Graduation isn't the end of your music.
It's just time to take your sound — and your steady heartbeat — somewhere new.
If you're the one who never drops the beat, even when no one's watching… this instrument gets you.
