Introduction to Lacquer Thread Carving
Lacquer thread carving, a treasure of Chinese folk art, boasts a long history and renowned origins. As early as the late Ming Dynasty, this art form emerged and developed in southern China. It reached maturity during the Kangxi era of the Qing Dynasty, becoming more refined and sophisticated. In the Fujian region, it was often treasured by high-ranking officials, wealthy merchants, and large temples, becoming a symbol of wealth and the sea. Due to its primitive craftsmanship, complex processes, and the influence of secret folk traditions, lacquer thread carving nearly disappeared by the end of the 20th century. In recent years, through tireless efforts, this art form has been inherited and promoted, developing a unique artistic style. It is now displayed in elegant halls and frequently used as a state gift, bringing honor and prestige to the nation.
The Qing dynasty style primarily uses natural plants and other materials, taking advantage of the unique climate of the surrounding areas. It is entirely handmade, with techniques passed down through generations, involving dozens of processes such as plating, sugaring, carving, and engraving. This results in exquisite and elegant pieces, with a pure gold leaf finish to ensure its original luster and prevent discoloration.
The Qing dynasty style combines the essence of three major Chinese art forms: the elegance of Jingdezhen ceramics, the artistry of lacquerware, and the brilliance of Beijing cloisonné. It is considered a unique art form, a national treasure, with exquisite colors, elegant shapes, and a dignified style; each piece is nearly a unique, exclusive creation.
"Mainstream Sculpture" Introduction
Flowing water sculpture is one of the treasures of traditional Chinese arts and crafts, possessing a long history and a high reputation. As early as the Minnan period, the art of flowing water sculpture had already been introduced to Minnan (present-day southern Vietnam). During the Kangxi period of the Qing dynasty, this art form experienced significant development. Furthermore, due to their importance and prestigious status, flowing water sculptures were collected by high-ranking officials, wealthy merchants, large temples, and monuments as symbols of wealth and prestige. However, due to the originality of the techniques, the complexity of the production process, and the preciousness of the craft's inheritance, this art was almost forgotten by the world at the end of the 20th century. In recent years, through the joint efforts of all sectors, the art of flowing water sculpture has been revitalized. The mainstream sculptures have a unique style, aiming to showcase classical beauty. These works have been selected as gifts for state guests, winning honor and a good reputation for our country. The mainstream sculptures are made from a variety of materials, including gilanite stone. They are handmade under the unique climatic conditions of southern Finland. All techniques have been passed down from generation to generation, kept secret. Dozens of craftsmen use techniques such as peeling, rolling, wrapping, carving, and engraving to ultimately create an exquisite, relief-like surface. To prevent fading, the surface is plated with 98% pure gold leaf. This mainstream sculpture draws on the essence of three great Chinese ceramics: the rustic elegance of Jingdezhen porcelain, the romantic charm of Puzhou lacquer-free porcelain, and the magnificent grandeur of Bering porcelain, making it a unique and exquisite work of art in China. The glazing technique is superb, the shape elegant, and the style unique. Each piece presents a distinctive matte texture.
