1st time seeing this kind of damage on a tone hole, soft soldered a patch onto the seam, cut and filed the patch down to match the rest of the tone hole. After adjustments , the sax is restored to play condition.

Drum cover of Steely Dan’s - Reelin in the Years

Always wanted to teach myself this kind of rock shuffle with ghost notes, the ghost notes probably can be heard since I’m just using a phone to record .

Replaced all the missing hardware in this old drumset for a school, did some light cleaning and oiling.
They did not want to change the heads so I just cleaned and retuned them to an acceptable standard.
Had to cut new threads on the hi hat rod since the replacement I received was an imperial thread whereas this hi hat stand needed a metric one.
My fault for assuming the store would send me the right one.

Just cut this M6-P1 thread on this Hi-hat rod that needed new threads.
Faced off the end and turned it to an acceptable diameter, would’ve loved to cut the thread with a single point thread cutting tool like a man but they don’t sell those in 8mm sizes, would have to buy a quick change tool post to fit anything bigger but that’s a future investment for now. Had to use a die to cut the threads, I used the lathe to help me start the cut which helps a lot at keeping the threads levelled.

Been busy these past couple of weeks, finished this job for a client within a span of a month.

Saxophone players should take note that you shouldn’t tighten your neck screw as tight as you can, neck screws are prone to snapping off if too much force is applied. Just a light amount of pressure will do.

If your sax neck is too loose even after tightening the neck screw it means your socket isn’t fitting properly and should be brought for repairs.
To prevent this problem you should make a habit of wiping the neck tenon and socket before assembly and after disassembly with a dry cloth, no grease or oil needed, they can attract grit which will cause wear on the sax neck tenon.

Worked on a few low brass instrument, replaced all the valve washers, guides springs and water key cork and adjusted the action so that noise is minimised. Brass instruments can usually last for a few decades if properly cared for , and if you don’t dent or drop them you mostly only need to change the valve washers, guide and Waterkey cork every now and then which are easily obtained. The other thing that will degrade with time is the lacquer or outer plating which doesn’t really affect the sound and tone unless corrosion is exposed to the raw brass and it leaks which is rare if the instrument is wiped regularly.I hope more bands and band directors are aware of this since low brass are one of the more costly instrument in a band but with the right parts and regular service can last for decades.

Playtest of a Yamaha 4xx series flute I repaired for Swadaya Band awhile ago, flutes are instruments that won’t play well with any minor leaks, they need more attention on pad seating compared to the other woodwinds. If the flute is sealing well, the low octave should play without too much trouble even for beginners if they have good breath control.
