Can you spot me?
The Christmas season Is a time to reflect on the many memories surrounding this wonderful time of the year. The older one becomes, the more the memories pile on, year after year. Past Christmases are very clear, and indelibly impressed in my memory.
It’s memories of sitting up on Christmas Eve with family after performing the Christmas Cantata at the Church I was confirmed . We were not allowed to put up the Christmas tree until the house was clean and spotless - my brother and I would always volunteer to do the cleaning as this was the only time of the year where we would have the entire living room floor filled with soap water. We would ski from one end to the other. I also would wake up at nights before Christmas and unwrap my presents just enough to give me a hint of what i was receiving for Christmas, a skill I never knew I had . If I wasn’t too happy with the gift, I would throw hints to my family all week in hopes of a replacement . Eventually, I got caught and my gifts were never under the tree again and always in my aunts trunk - locked.
Unique to Christmas in Malaysia is the “open house” concept where friends, families and even strangers would visit the homes of those who are celebrating to wish them well and enjoy the feast prepared by their hosts.
This Christmas is a little different. While I am at home, I am currently in line for my 5th day PCR test - a requirement as part of the home quarantine process in order to be declared Free on the 8th day !
