As busy parents, it’s easy to feel like you’re not doing enough.
But here’s the good news.
Your toddler doesn’t need another planned activity or lesson.
They just need opportunities to be included in everyday life.
Every time they help with a real task, they’re not just learning a skill.
They’re learning:
✨ I am capable.
✨ I can contribute.
✨ I belong here.
✨ I am trusted.
These ordinary moments become extraordinary learning opportunities.
Here are a few simple ways to include your toddler and preschooler in your day:
🥬 Wash vegetables.
Let them splash the veggies in a bowl of water while you prepare dinner.
🍌 Cut fruits.
Ask them to cut soft fruits like bananas or dragon fruit with toddler knives. They usually eat more if they’re the ones doing the slicing too!
🧂Add ingredients.
While cooking or baking, let them pour pre-measured ingredients while you’re cooking or mixing.
🥣 Stir ingredients.
Whether it’s dry flour mix or pancake batter, stirring builds coordination and gives them a sense of contribution.
🥄 Scoop ingredients.
Let them scoop yogurt or dips into their own bowl. This gives them a sense of agency where they’re in control of how much they’re scooping and how they’re scooping it. Bonus: if they spill, just calmly ask them to wipe it up!
🍽️ Set the table.
Let them prepare the cutleries for every person in the family. Explain why we use certain cutleries for certain dishes - chopsticks for noodles, knives for steaks, forks for pasta, etc.
These moments say something incredibly powerful to your child:
“You’re capable. You’re part of our family. Your contribution matters.”
When we create a space where children can safely join us instead of watching from the sidelines, we’re doing more than keeping them occupied.
We’re raising capable children by showing them we trust them to do meaningful things.
🤍 Save this as a reminder for the days you feel like you’re not doing enough.
💛 Share this with a parent who needs the reminder that everyday moments count.
