The rarity and exclusivity of a Chang Fee Ming watercolour painting is surely one of the reasons why the artist’s works are in such high demand by Southeast Asian art collectors. But, some of the artist’s most important works are now being made available through exclusive limited edition prints.
A collaboration between the Malaysian artist and Atelier Sekuchi, the two sets of high quality limited edition prints are centred on Chang’s Terengganu and Mandalay series.
From the former, three key works were selected for this special project – ‘Timeless Grace’, ‘A Lifetime’, and ‘Initiation’. The works depict pastoral scenes of the artist’s hometown and speak of a slower paced life outside the city.
Accompanying this, are prints of works from Chang’s celebrated Mandalay series – ‘Fields of Gold’, ‘In This Earth, In That Wind’, ‘Pillar of Enlightenment’, and ‘Melody of a Thousand Waterdrops Falling’ – which document scenes from the artist’s travels.
Mandalay remains one of Chang’s most important bodies of work and these newly-released limited edition prints opens up the market for more collectors to enjoy a slice of Chang’s most critical artistic periods.
All prints from this exclusive release were produced in 2014 measuring 36 x 29 inches, and both series feature 98 exclusive prints along with 5 artist’s proofs. The guarantee of quality lies in the fact that Chang himself has personally inspected, numbered, signed, and approved each one. Each print will also be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Quality also comes by way of the craftsmanship of Master Printer Wesley Wong of Giclee Art who worked on these exclusive prints, as well as the materials used. All prints were made on Canson ARCHES AQUARELLE RAG Fine Art Paper or SIHL Artistic Texture Fine Art Paper with Epson Stylus Pro 9900, using Ultrachrome HDR Pigment Ink – a combination that has been given an archival lifespan rating that exceeds 100 years.
The exclusive prints from Chang’s Terengganu and Mandalay series opens up a prime opportunity for budding collectors to add an original Chang Fee Ming work into their collection, and gives existing collectors a chance of extending the breadth of their existing Chang Fee Ming portfolio. In both cases, demand is expected to be high, as Chang’s watercolours remain one of the country’s most illustrious and visually refined.
