Speed Jigging vs Slow Pitch Jigging 🎣
Two of the most effective vertical jigging techniques, but each with its own style, purpose, and advantage.
SPEED JIGGING/FAST JIGGING is all about power and aggression. Anglers use fast, continuous cranking combined with sharp rod lifts to create a high-speed darting action. This technique triggers reaction strikes from fast, aggressive predators like tuna, trevally, and amberjack.
Pros:
• Covers water quickly and efficiently
• Triggers aggressive reaction bites
• Ideal for active, fast-moving fish
• Great for deep water and strong currents
Cons:
• Physically demanding and tiring
• Less effective on inactive or pressured fish
• Requires stronger gear and stamina
SLOW PITCH JIGGING focuses on finesse and presentation. Using a specialized rod, the angler lifts and allows the jig to fall naturally, creating a fluttering, wounded baitfish action that entices even hesitant fish to strike.
Pros:
• Highly effective on inactive or pressured fish
• Less tiring compared to speed jigging
• Natural presentation increases strike rate
• Works well in mid to deep water
Cons:
• Slower coverage of water
• Requires technique and timing to master
• Less effective for highly aggressive, fast-moving fish
Both techniques are deadly when used at the right time. Mastering both will make you a more versatile and successful angler.
