The Journey of Mr. Ebuka Ikenna: From Chalk to Clicks


My name is Ebuka Ikenna born and bred in the heart of Nsukka, Enugu State.

For 9 years, I stood in front of dusty chalkboards, calling the attention of restless children in a small public school where the fans stopped working long before I resumed. I was the “English teacher,” but in reality, I wore many hats father, counselor, mathematician, and sometimes nurse.

I never hated teaching. In fact, I loved it. But something in me always felt… stuck.

Every month, my salary barely lasted 10 days. I would borrow to survive the rest. I stopped picking some calls because I couldn’t help anyone anymore. I began to feel ashamed. One day, after school, I walked into my room, looked at my lesson notes, and whispered to myself:

"Ebuka, is this it?"

That night, I stumbled on a YouTube video titled “How to Start Freelancing with Just Your Smartphone.” I clicked it. I watched it 7 times. Something inside me lit up.

I didn’t know it then, but that was the beginning of my journey out of the classroom
