The church was full.

Powerful worship. Deep prayers. People crying under the anointing.

And in the middle of it all…

Daniel was pressing his phone under the chair, replying to a betting group chat.

“Chelsea will win today. Play am with confidence.”

“Amen!” somebody shouted from the altar.

Daniel quickly dropped his phone and raised his hand too.

“Amen!”

Nobody knew.

Nobody knew he had not opened his Bible in almost eight months.

Nobody knew his prayer life died quietly.

Nobody knew he only came to church because everybody believed he was a “strong brother.”

After service, a young boy ran to him.

“Brother Daniel!”

“Yes?”

“You preached last month… and it changed my life.”

Daniel forced a smile.

“Glory to God.”

The boy lowered his voice.

“Please pray for me. I want to know God the way you know Him.”

That sentence nearly broke him.

The way you know Him.

If only the boy knew.

Daniel could preach. Daniel could sing. Daniel could speak in tongues.

But Daniel had become empty.

That night, he got home and threw himself on the bed.

His phone buzzed again.

Bet notifications. Funny videos. Instagram messages.

Then suddenly…

His chest tightened.

He sat up immediately.

Breathing became hard.

“Jesus…”

Fear gripped him instantly.

For the first time in years… death felt close.

He looked around the dark room.

And one terrifying thought entered his mind:

“If I die now… where will I go?”

Not: “I’m a worker.” Not: “I’m popular in church.”

Just one question:

“Does Jesus truly know me?”

Daniel began to shake.

He remembered how fire used to burn inside him during midnight prayers.

How he once cried during worship.

How he once preached to his friends passionately.

But slowly…

sin did not destroy him at once.

Little compromise. Little distractions. Little secret habits.

Until church became performance.

Tears rolled down his eyes.

“God… when did I become like this?”

Silence filled the room.

Then his phone rang.

It was the young boy from church.

“Brother Daniel?”

Daniel wiped his tears quickly.

“Hello…”

“Sir, I just called because… while praying, I felt led to tell you something.”

Daniel’s heart pounded.

The boy continued softly:

“God said He misses you.”

Silence.

Complete silence.

Daniel broke down instantly.

Not because God wanted to destroy him.

But because after everything… God was still calling him back.

That night became different.

No keyboard. No microphone. No church title.

Just a broken man on the floor crying:

“Jesus… please don’t leave me.”

And somewhere tonight…

many Christians are still active in church, but absent in relationship with God.

People see their service.

But heaven sees their heart.

The dangerous thing is not when you stop going to church.

The dangerous thing is when you continue acting spiritual after losing intimacy with God.

Because crowds can clap for a gift…

while heaven mourns a dying soul.

If this story touched you, ask yourself honestly:

“When last did I truly spend time with God… not for appearance, but for relationship?”
