DAX ROADMAP SERIES — POST 9
IF() Function in DAX – Add Logic to Your Reports
Not every customer is the same.
Not every product performs equally.
Not every month is profitable.
Sometimes, your dashboard needs to make decisions—not just calculations.
That's where the IF() function comes in.
The IF() function checks whether a condition is true or false and returns different results based on that condition.
Think of it like this:
If Sales are above the target → "Target Achieved"
Otherwise → "Below Target"
Example
Suppose your monthly sales target is ₦1,000,000.
Use this DAX measure:
Performance Status =
IF(
[Total Sales] >= 1000000,
"Target Achieved",
"Below Target"
)
Now your dashboard automatically tells you whether you're meeting your target.
No manual checking.
No guessing.
Just instant insights.
Where You'll Use IF()
Sales Performance
Profit or Loss
Low Stock Alerts
In Stock / 🔴 Out of Stock
Target Achieved / Target Missed
High Expense Alerts
The best dashboards don't just show numbers.
They tell you what those numbers mean.
That's what turns data into action.
