*NIYYAH*
Niyyah (intention) is the first thing required of a fasting person. This Niyyah (intention) needn't necessarily be said aloud, doing That becomes an innovation in the religion. A fasting person would make such intention in his heart that when the crescent moon is being sighted he will fast the next morning. The prophet (PBUH) Said "_whoever doesn't intent to fast from the night before has no fast_" _(classified as hasan by Albani in tirmidhi 573.)_ It should be noted however that the intention should be for every single fast throughout the 29/30 days. But some scholars are of the opinion that the first intention suffices. As far as its made for all.
*SAHUR*
Sahur (pre-dawn meal). It should be eaten before al-fijr. And one should take it close to the time of second adhan. However its disliked to take sahur at mid-night or before the first adhan as this isn't the sunnah of the prophet. Anas reported The prophet to have said: "_eat meal before dawn for there is a blessing in it_". _(sahih bukhari, book of fasting, hadith no. 2412)_ see also. Hadith no. 2413-2420.
The prophet also advice us to delay sahur and hasten iftar. And one of the times Du'a is most accepted is at the time of sahur. There's evidence from the tradition of the prophet that one can finish what he has started eating even if the call for prayer is made provided that isn't intentional, but we should fear Allah regarding this.
This is all we can take for today and may Allah forgive our shortcomings. Ameen ya rabal alameen.
