Throwback to one unforgettable childhood experience 😩
One morning while getting ready for school, my dad noticed ₦300 was missing. He asked who took it, but none of us—my siblings or I—admitted to it. Then he said something that shook us:
“If the person who took the money confesses, I won’t beat you. But if no one owns up, none of you are going to school today.”
I didn’t take the money, but I raised my hand and said I did—just so we wouldn’t be late for school. I thought I was saving the day… but I had no idea I was about to suffer for it 😞
My dad told my siblings to go to school and asked me to remove my uniform. He handed me a trailer tire to carry while kneeling. Then he flogged me like never before. My mum joined too.
Around 10am, they finally let me go and told me to trek to school. I cried all the way and couldn’t even sit when I got there. The pain was real 😢
And the most painful part?
My dad later found the ₦300 exactly where he had kept it. Either he forgot or someone else hid it there.
I didn’t talk to my parents for days, but eventually, I forgave them.
Now when I remember, I just laugh—but believe me, it wasn’t funny at all that day.
Why did my dad react that way?
He hated stealing. It hurt him deeply to think his own child could do such a thing.
I’m sure my siblings still remember this day clearly.
It happened in primary school, but the memory is still very fresh.
Moral of the story:
Sometimes, doing the right thing might come with pain, but it always reveals your heart. 💔💡
And as parents, may we learn to pause, breathe, and seek clarity before we discipline.
