The last three days have been emotionally challenging for many of us within the Kwankwasiyya family. In the spirit of openness and respect, I believe it is important to explain my reasons for aligning with some party officials who hold the view that members should be guided from the NNPP to the APC.
For those who have followed my journey over the years, it is clear that I was and still remain a committed member of the Kwankwasiyya movement. I have consistently stated, including very recently, that His Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is not only someone who played a role in shaping my life, but also a father figure who deserves my respect and affection at all times. I have also acknowledged publicly the roles played by both Dr Kwankwaso and His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in supporting and encouraging me.
At the same time, I believe that the education and exposure I have gained should guide my thinking and help me objectively assess political realities. On the 25th and 27th of November 2025, at a time when the NNPP was conducting congresses to elect party executives from the ward level to the national level, the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Bello Kawu of High Court No 14 Apo, issued orders restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising or dealing with any faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party other than the leadership headed by Dr Agbo Gilbert Major. This ruling was completely against the NNPP leadership led by our leader, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In its rulings, the court granted leave for judicial review and ordered that such leave operate as a stay on any contrary actions by INEC. It also restrained INEC from monitoring or participating in any congress or convention organised by the affected faction until the substantive suit is determined. Despite these developments, congresses proceeded at various levels. From experience and observation of electoral jurisprudence in Nigeria, it is clear that such situations can carry serious consequences, especially where court orders are involved.
Past experiences, such as the 2019 Zamfara State elections and the 2023 Plateau State legislative cases, serve as reminders of how procedural issues can significantly affect political outcomes, sometimes in ways that no one initially anticipates.
This naturally raises the question of whether it is wise to continue on a path that may expose the party and its members to avoidable risks. Party members worked diligently for eight years under the leadership of Dr Kwankwaso to bring the present administration in Kano State to power, and there is no doubt about the visible achievements of His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf across various sectors. However, many of us believe it is reasonable to explore alternatives that may better safeguard these gains and the future of the state.
The call to consider leaving the party is therefore not driven by personal ambition or individual positions. Rather, it is viewed by some as a strategic option aimed at aligning the state in a single political direction to enhance cooperation with the central government and promote sustainable development across all sectors. Over the years, Kano State has often felt the effects of limited consideration at the federal level, and addressing this concern remains important to many stakeholders.
I am not fully aware of all discussions that may have taken place among leaders regarding possible political realignments, and I do not wish to speculate. What guides me personally is the desire to avoid unnecessary political uncertainty and to act in a way that I sincerely believe serves the long term interest of the movement and the state.
In good faith, many of us collectively advised our leader and the Governor to consider this option, believing it to be in the broader interest of Kwankwasiyya and Kano State. Throughout this process, my respect for Senator Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has remained absolute. I will never support or condone insults or disrespect towards him, now or in the future.
The relationship between His Excellency Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf spans over four decades. It is a deep and longstanding relationship that has benefited many people. It would be unfortunate for anyone to attempt to weaken this bond for personal or political reasons, and I am confident that such efforts will not succeed, In sha Allah.
I remain hopeful that, through dialogue and mutual understanding, our leader will listen to the concerns being expressed by many across the local governments and guide the movement in a direction that preserves unity, stability, and progress.
