When I say ‘happy new year’,
I’m not for a moment,
expecting this to occur,
for that is not possible,
a year must be all things.

Happiness must come and go,
like the tides and the winds,
just as sadness,
and all the emotions in between.

When I say ‘happy new year’,
I’m really wishing you,
a baseline of peace,
of gratitude.

Because if you can sit with these things,
for the most part,
happiness will thrive,
when it does arrive,
and sadness will know its place in the mix.

If you can nourish these things,
daily,
you will also grow hope,
for it flourishes in such soil.

And hope is the key,
to this enigmatic state
of ‘happiness’ we seek.

When I say ‘happy new year’,
I’m really wishing you more happy days,
than sad days,
more joy than misery,
more laughter than tears…
and the wisdom to accept,

A GOOD LESSON TO LEARN:

I realised that people who own upward of 100 million Naira cash today are those who never had a degree or never used it directly in their businesses. Conversely, none of my friends who has a degree can boast of having 10 million Naira in savings from his legitimate salaries.

This is a pointer to the fact that having a degree and working in the Nigerian economy, earning a Nigerian salary without stealing will make people live and die poor.

You want to rely on pensions? Don't even think about it. My contributory pension of 12years work experience in civil service is not more than 10million right now. If I should retire today, Pensions Scheme will only give me 50% and keep the remaining for my children to inherit when I die.

This is the civil service mentality that our society is glorifying, respecting and encouraging you to join with degrees. Apart from the joy derived from public service as a national duty there is nothing there. If you don't think about setting up a business immediately after graduation or pursuing other non-degree pathways of life, you might end up queuing up for paltry pensions at 60. The pensions that will never get you a decent house to live your retirement life in peace.

Remember, not everyone will have the opportunity to steal even if they plan to do so!

I do not think people realize how important 2023 is.

Let me explain

Last year Nigeria made:

₦970.3 Billion from oil

₦1.6 Trillion from non-oil taxes [More revenue from this than oil]

₦2.8 Trillion from a cumulative of other sources.

In total the country brought in ₦5.5 Trillion in revenue

Then it gets really crazy from here.

Out of that ₦5.5 Trillion revenue, ₦4.2 Trillion was spent on servicing (repaying) debts from January to November.

So what is left after paying debts is ₦1.3 Trillion.

Which, as a matter of fact; means that what is left after repaying what we owe is not enough to run the country…

…because in the 2021 national budget, the nation needs to run on a total of ₦13.57 Trillion.

So since we just have ₦1.3 trillion left, an extra ₦12.27 trillion is needed.

Where do we get it?

Yes, you guessed right - we borrow.

In 2021 Nigeria spent ₦12.56 trillion - most of which were borrowed money spent on things that do not bring money back (salary, fuel subsidy, LOOTING, etc).

So if Nigeria was a man who makes ₦100k a month, he borrows ₦5 million every month to pay for light bill, and running of the house.

Scary, isn’t it?

The excess Crude oil account (which is like our savings) is almost empty.

So not only does this man borrow like a crazy person, he has no SAVINGS for emergencies (like if his boss decides not to pay salary).

Anyways, the finance minister thinks we are doing alright. That what we have is a revenue problem - and not a debt problem & if we make more we will be alright (this is why they are taxing everything)

Of course, she could be lying.

…but she maybe right too.

The rule is we should NEVER borrow more than 40% of our GDP.

We are at 36.9%

3.2% more and all the alarm bell goes off.

Now - imagine if our revenue keeps dropping, and the debt keeps increasing. And one day - voom - 3.2% crossed!

Then we will really have a debt problem.

Since we currently borrow to pay salary, when the alarm goes off - further borrowing is a disaster:

The Government will struggle to pay salary.

(Which is scary considering that the Government is the biggest employer of labour in Nigeria)

More Taxes will be imposed to raise money, Including tax of Goods which will increase the prices you pay on Foreign rice for example.

Our currency will get futher devalued.

Which means things will get even more expensive in the market.

This is the state of the nation…YET…

…the politicians still loot and take home fat salary.

Imagine if we get the wrong President in 2023, who will not get these things fixed.

Imagine the disaster if we push over that 3.2%

If you think politics does not affect you, then maybe you do NOT see the full picture.

Which is why i laugh at people who ignorantly say - ‘’I am not interested in politics’’

Well, guess what it? It is interested in you.

The person who becomes the President will affect the price of your bag of rice…

…your cynlinder of gas

It affects whether or not it is safe to drive from Kaduna to Abuja or fly…

…or whether you need to pay 7.2% or 20% VAT on your Facebook ads.

It affects whether you keep selling on your Instagram page or whether Instagram gets banned in the country OUT of the blues.

It affects the shipping fee you pay on your Tokunbo car.

Get the picture?

This is NOT the time to be tribalistic. Or want a President from any part of Nigeria. It is a time for THE RIGHT ONE.

You really need to get involved. In any little way you can. Even if to get PVC, try go vote. If your Vote does not count they won't be chasing people away at polling stations.

It is good to be good...and its good to compromise.

But its not good to be a fool.

Who is a fool?
A fool is one who goes on trusting, no matter what is done to him or her.

And a fool is one
who goes on trusting against all his or her, bad experiences.
You deceive,and he or her trusts you.

You deceive him again and
again, and he trusts you...and you deceive him again, and he trusts you...

That's a fool, in my own thinking.

Yes of course, he is a fool because he does not learn.
Right!
A fool's trust is tremendous, his trust is so pure that nobody can corrupt it.
A fool is good, but wouldn't ever be happy in this life.

So be a fool only when you are learning, not when you have already learnt.
And lastly I know a lot who are not foolish with money, but are foolish in love, and marriage.
Not being a fool in marriage doesn't mean not wanting the marriage.
No.
It only means NOT showing your partner, that you know what you do.
Do not be a fool in those too, because being a fool robs one of the essence of enjoying, his or her state of being.

Only Allah should be trusted this much.
Not life, and its people.

Each time I hear this or read it, it feels like suffering. Like pain. Like pounding yam or hacking the barks of a tree.

So you mean you are going to spend the limited time you have here on Earth, revenging by being successful?
Who are you fighting exactly?
And we wonder why we are emotionally tired, physically drained and forget to live. All because we want to revenge by being successful.

Listen, get some sleep. Eat minimally. Rest. Exercise. Seek holy curiosity. Go slow. Step back.
Trust me the ones you want revenge at, are also struggling. This whole life is a test for everyone. And trust me, if your enemy or whoever that has hurt you, opens up about their own suffering, you will feel pity for them, instantly.

Basically, be a decent human and forget competing or comparing or showing off, in order to seem successful.

Be an inspiration to yourself.
