THE VANGUARDS (Amaze Soldiers)
The Origin
Captain Thunderflare: The First Vanguard
It all started on my 24th birthday.
I began having visions—dreams, really—of a woman in power armor wielding a staff. They felt like nightmares. Every time I woke up, a flash of light would streak through my room. I couldn’t explain what was happening to me.
Then I noticed something else: sparks of lightning crackling on my palms whenever I got angry or upset. My colleague Kenneth picked up on my strange behavior and stepped in.
“Adanna, I can’t let you go through this alone,” he said. “You have to tell your mum about the strange things happening to you.”
I thought about it for a while, then muttered,
“But you know how Mum is... and I haven’t spoken to her since I joined the police.”
For the record, I’ve never met my dad. I don’t even know who he is.
But I figured—maybe it’s time. I’d give it a shot.
After work, I finally decided to call my mum. She told me to come over to Abuja.
I took the next flight. If she had answers to the questions haunting me, I had to go.
When I got home, Mama and my younger brother, Young John, were excited to see me. They gave me a warm welcome. Mama even cooked my favorite—melon soup and pounded yam.
That evening, she called me into her room and told me a story that would change my life forever.
Apparently, we come from a family known as the Adejohs. Our village was blessed with the wisdom of the elders, who passed down stories about our ancestors’ deep connection to the elements.
One stormy night, as rain poured and thunder roared through the forest, my ancestor—Adejoh, the fiercest and bravest hunter in the village—ventured into the tempest seeking shelter under the massive canopy of an ancient tree.
