One thing years in women’s fashion retail have taught me is that styling is not about throwing everything beautiful into one outfit.

Sometimes, the secret is knowing what not to add.

I chose this beautiful printed outfit and deliberately paired it with brown covered flat shoes and a nude-and-brown bag.

Why?

Because the outfit already has enough colour and personality.

Instead of introducing another competing colour, I allowed the accessories to calm the look down and create balance.

THE DAY I BECAME LOLO UDOCHINYERE OF IHO DIMEZE, SOMETHING CHANGED IN ME. πŸ‘‘

Taking up the title of Lolo Udochinyere of Iho Dimeze Ancient Kingdom was not just about adding a beautiful title to my name.

It changed the way I saw myself.

And one of the first things that changed was the way I dressed.

Suddenly, dressing was no longer just about looking beautiful.

It became about representation.

About culture.

About dignity.

About understanding that when you carry a title, people don't only see you.

They see something bigger than you.

They see the community you represent.
They see the values you carry.
They see the tradition behind the title.

In Igbo culture, the regalia of a highly titled woman can be deeply symbolic. The fabrics, beads, fans, headpieces and other accessories can communicate prestige, identity, dignity and cultural heritage, with specific meanings and practices varying from community to community.

For me, the beauty of the transformation is in the details.

The rich George, velvet and lace wrappers.

The carefully chosen fabrics and embroidery.

The beautiful coral beads, worn around the neck and wrists, adding that unmistakable regal presence.

The Akupe, the traditional hand fan, beautifully designed and carried with grace.

And sometimes, the Nza, the horsetail whisk associated in some traditions with high status and ceremonial presence.

Even modern interpretations of Isiagu have found their way into women's ceremonial fashion, bringing together contemporary style and traditional symbolism.

But here's the part that matters most to me:

The regalia is not the title.

The beads don't make me a Lolo.

The wrapper doesn't make me a Lolo.

The fan doesn't make me a Lolo.

The responsibility that comes with the title does.

It has made me more conscious of how I carry myself.

How I speak.

How I treat people.

How I serve.

How I represent my people.

Because what is the point of wearing beautiful traditional regalia if the person underneath it does not reflect dignity, humility and service?

I have always believed in service to humanity.

But this title gave that belief another dimension.

It reminded me that leadership is not always about sitting in the biggest chair.

Sometimes, leadership is simply being conscious that someone is watching you and learning from how you live.

So yes, my wardrobe changed.

My traditional pieces became more intentional.

My accessories became more meaningful.

My appreciation for our culture became deeper.

But beyond the clothes, my sense of responsibility changed.

And perhaps that is the most beautiful thing a title can do.

It should not only change what you wear.

CAN YOUR FASHION CHOICES AFFECT HOW YOUR SKIN FEELS? LET'S TALK ABOUT IT.

For years, I have loved fashion that hugs the body.

Leggings? I’m there. πŸ˜‚
Fitted dresses? Yes please.
Anything that gives a nice shape? I know how to rock it!

But lately, my relationship with fitted clothing has changed.

And it started with me paying closer attention to my skin and my comfort.

I have been dealing with a recurring skin condition called lichen nitidus, and after going through treatment more than once, I started noticing that some clothes simply don't feel as comfortable on my skin as they used to.

Now, let me make something very clear:

Tight clothing is not known to cause lichen nitidus.

Lichen nitidus is a skin condition that can occur without an obvious cause. So I am not saying, β€œI wore leggings and that caused my lichen nitidus.” No.

But there is something else worth understanding.

Your clothing can affect your skin's comfort.

Tight clothing can create friction against the skin. Heat and sweat can also make already-sensitive skin feel more uncomfortable.

And sometimes, the fabric itself, dyes or other chemicals used during textile production can trigger irritation or a separate skin reaction in some people.

So these days, I find myself choosing fashion differently.

I am reaching more for:

πŸ‘— Flowing dresses
πŸ‘– Relaxed trousers
✨ Soft, comfortable fabrics
🩳 Less restrictive outfits
🌿 Clothes that allow me to move freely without constant rubbing

And you know what?

I still want to look good! πŸ˜‚

Because being comfortable doesn't mean abandoning style.

As someone who has been in women's fashion retailing for years, this experience has also taught me something important about customers.

Not every woman wants body-hugging fashion.

Some women want something elegant for work.

Some want something comfortable for running around all day.

Some want an outfit that allows them to sit, walk, bend and move without constantly adjusting it.

And some simply want their skin to feel comfortable.

That is why, as fashion sellers, we shouldn't only ask:

β€œDoes it look good?”

We should also think:

β€œWill my customer feel good wearing it?”

Fashion should be about style, confidence AND comfort.

And if you have a recurring rash or skin problem, don't automatically assume your clothes are the cause. Getting the condition properly assessed by a dermatologist is important, especially when it keeps coming back.

For me, I am simply learning to listen to my body.

The leggings aren't going anywhere. πŸ˜‚

But for now, my skin gets a little more breathing room!
