Final Chapter 27: The Price of Rewriting Fate

One Year Later

I didn’t remember Warren.

Not truly.

Sometimes I’d see a boy in my dreams—his eyes like thunderstorms, his smile like safety—but when I woke, the details slipped away like sand between my fingers.

I lived an ordinary life now.

New school. New friends. I studied literature, worked at a little cafĂŠ by the sea, and volunteered at the city library on weekends.

But something inside me was always… missing.

Like I was waiting for someone I didn’t remember.

---

Warren’s New World

He lived in a different town, under a new name.

His memories were wiped clean, just like mine.

But sometimes, when it rained, he’d stop in the street, heart racing, unsure why a girl’s laugh echoed in his soul.

He wrote music now. Sad melodies he couldn’t explain. And one of them—untitled, unfinished—always made him cry.

---

Two Strangers, One Thread

One afternoon, I saw him.

I didn’t recognize him.

But I felt him.

He walked into the café, drenched in rain, asking for tea. I looked up from behind the counter—and time stopped.

Something inside me screamed.

He looked at me with wide eyes, like he felt it too.

I dropped a mug. He caught it. Our hands touched.

The air went cold.

The lights flickered.

And then I heard it.

A voice. The Oracle’s final whisper.

> “Love cannot be erased. Only forgotten.
And even forgotten things… remember how to return.”

That night, I found an old notebook I’d never seen before hidden in my drawer.

Pages full of writing in my own handwriting… but not mine.

Dreams. Names. Warren.
Mentions of ruins, oceans, timelines, and a storm of stars.

And one final sentence:

> “If I forget you, I will find you again. I promise.”

My head spun.

I grabbed the notebook and ran.

I didn’t know where—only that I had to find him again.

---

The Crossing

Warren was dreaming.

Of me.

Of a girl with fire in her voice and grief in her eyes. Of a storm that swallowed time.

He woke up gasping, whispering my name.

Not knowing where it came from.

Then he saw it—a symbol burned into the corner of his window. A sigil. From a dream.

The Rift had closed.

But its mark was still in us.

We met again in the strangest place.

The library. Among old books and dusty myths.

I dropped the notebook.

He picked it up.

And this time—when our eyes met—

It all came back.

---

Every Timeline. Every Kiss. Every Tear.

We remembered everything.

The ruins. The Oracle. The Rift. The deaths. The fight. The choice.

And the love.

We remembered us.

“I found you,” I whispered, tears pouring down my cheeks.

Warren stepped closer, his hands shaking. “I never stopped dreaming of you.”

And there, between the shelves of forgotten stories, we collapsed into each other’s arms like no time had passed at all.

Because some loves?

They rewrite fate.

Others?

They survive it.

The end

Chapter 24 & 25 Eva vs Eva

The Rift’s Heart wasn’t a place.

It was a storm.

A swirling chaos of memories, time threads, and dying stars. At its center, suspended like a puppet on invisible strings, was Warren—unmoving, trapped in a sleep between existence and erasure.

And across from him stood her.

Elandra.
My other self.
The version of me that lost everything and shattered timelines to steal what I still had.

“You don’t understand,” she said, voice shaking with fury. “I deserve him. I watched him die in my arms a hundred times. I burned through timelines trying to fix it. I became time to bring him back!”

I tightened my grip on the memory blade Velmira had given me. “And I’m sorry. I am you. I know that pain. But destroying every version of us won’t bring him back—it’ll only break you more.”

She stepped closer, the air warping around her. “You’re still naïve. I won’t let you keep what I lost.”

And then she struck.

---

The Battle Beyond Time

We fought in a war of selves.

Every blow shattered memories—scenes of my life breaking like glass.

Our first kiss under the willow tree.
Warren’s laughter on the rooftop.
The night he bled out in a different timeline.

She threw them at me like weapons.

“You don’t deserve him,” she screamed. “You were lucky.”

I dropped to my knees, overwhelmed.

But then… I remembered.

The fight wasn’t about who was stronger.

It was about who remembered love.
.............

I stood, my face soaked in tears.

“I know pain,” I whispered. “I know loss. But I also know this—love isn’t about rewriting what’s gone. It’s about choosing what’s here. Now.”

I stepped forward, holding the memory blade, but instead of striking…

…I placed it in her hand.

“Then take him,” I said. “If it will save you. If it will stop your suffering, I’d rather break than watch you fall any further. Because that’s what Warren would do.”

Her hands trembled.

Her anger cracked.

And she broke down.

Elandra fell to her knees, screaming as the storm around us wept.

The timelines flickered.

And for the first time… she looked like me.

Just a girl.

Tired of fighting.

---

A Soul Reunited

The Rift shimmered.

Elandra dissolved into light—not dying, but returning.

The fractured soul I had banished by rewriting fate finally found its place again.

We became whole.

And the moment it happened—

Warren’s eyes opened.

He gasped. “Eva?”

I ran to him, pulling him into my arms. “I found you again. Every version. Every time. I still choose you.”

He held me, breathless.

“I always knew you would.”

But even as we embraced—

The Rift began to collapse

The Ones Who Came Before appeared in the storm.

Velmira. Kael. The Nameless One.

“We warned you,” Velmira said softly. “A soul cannot break and reforge without a cost.”

“What now?” I asked, holding Warren’s hand tightly.

Kael stepped forward. “Reality is collapsing. The timelines you unstitched are bleeding into each other. We can’t hold it.”

“There is one way to seal it,” Velmira said, her voice trembling. “But it requires an anchor. A soul strong enough to bind the Rift from within.”

The implication hit me like thunder.

Someone had to stay inside the Rift.

Warren looked at me. “No. You’re not doing that.”

“I caused this,” I said. “I split time. I broke fate. It should be me.”

He shook his head. “We both rewrote fate. Then we both share the cost.”

---

A Choice Shared

I looked into his eyes, saw the truth of every version of us.

And I made a decision.

“No,” I said. “We’ve suffered enough. Everyone has.”

I turned to Velmira. “There’s another way. Let the Rift seal… and erase the rewritten timeline.”

Velmira gasped. “You’ll forget.”

Warren held my hand. “We’ll forget each other.”

“But the world will be safe,” I said.

And that’s the moment we knew—

To save time, we had to let go of ours.

---

The Final Memory

Before the Rift sealed, I kissed Warren for the last time.

Not in sorrow.

But in choice.

“I’ll find you again,” I whispered. “Even if we forget. Even if we’re strangers. I’ll know it’s you.”

He smiled, eyes shining. “And I’ll be waiting.”

The Rift roared.

Light exploded.

And everything faded.

Chapter 23: The Ones Who Came Before

A Message from the Oracle

The morning after we escaped the Rift’s echo, the skies refused to settle. Thunder rolled in daylight. Birds flew backwards. Time itself was… twitching.

Warren and I sat on the edge of the Hollow’s reconstructed walls, watching reality flicker at the corners of our vision.

That’s when the mirror cracked.

Not a literal mirror—but the air. A clean, invisible slice of the world split open before us like a wound. A glowing scroll floated out, sealed with the same obsidian wax that marked the Oracle’s voice.

I broke it open.

> “To repair what you broke,
You must find the Ones Who Came Before.
The first who touched time.
The cursed, the lost, the dangerous.
Seek the Temple Between Hours.
But beware—
They will not all be on your side.”

Warren looked at me. “Temple Between Hours?”

I nodded. “We need to go beyond time.”

---

The Journey Begins

We prepared quickly.

Ivy insisted on coming, but the Oracle’s warning was clear: only two souls tied by time could pass through the gate.

Warren and I left under a stormless moon, tracing the last known coordinates of the Fifth Meridian—an invisible boundary where reality folds.

We crossed mountains that whispered secrets, deserts where shadows remembered your past, and finally, came upon a gate of frozen starlight suspended over a sea of clocks.

It ticked.

Then opened.

---

The Temple Between Hours

Inside was neither day nor night—only a twilight void filled with ancient staircases, bridges that ended midair, and floating islands of memory.

And on each island stood a figure.

I felt it in my bones: these were the Ones Who Came Before.

---

The Four Timelost Guardians

1. Velmira – A priestess draped in blue, her hair made of flowing ink. She smiled when she saw us. “You’ve rewritten your thread,” she said. “You remind me of myself… before I lost everything.”

2. Kael – A boy no older than sixteen, with eyes that spun like gears. He studied us in silence. “Every choice,” he muttered, “is a war in disguise.”

3. The Nameless One – Cloaked in red, faceless. They never spoke but held a book filled with Eva’s entire life… even the parts she hadn’t lived yet.

4. Elandra – A woman with Eva’s face. Not just similar—identical. But her presence was colder. Darker. And in her eyes burned power unchecked.

“Welcome home, Eva,” she said with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

---

The Truth Revealed

We learned the truth in pieces.

The Rift wasn’t born by accident—it was created, thousands of years ago by the Timelost themselves. They had each bent fate in their own selfish ways. Some to save lovers. Some to prevent wars. Some just to feel alive again.

And the cost had been high.

Reality shattered.

And so, they built the Rift to contain the chaos they caused.

“You breaking the balance,” Velmira said, “reawakened us. Now reality is crumbling again.”

Kael turned to Warren. “And you, boy—you’re not stable either. You’ve been rewritten too many times. Your body remains, but your soul is split.”

Warren paled.

“What are you saying?” I asked.

“That if he dies one more time… he won’t come back,” Kael whispered. “Not in any timeline.”

---

Elandra’s Betrayal

As we debated how to seal the Rift permanently, Elandra moved closer to me.

“I remember what it’s like,” she whispered. “To love someone enough to destroy time for them.”

I nodded.

She smiled… and then shoved her hand into my chest.

Magic screamed.

Warren shouted my name.

Everything fractured.

And I saw it—

> A vision of Elandra standing in the Hollow, wearing my face, holding Warren’s heart in her hand.

She wasn’t one of the guardians.

She was a version of me who lost everything.
A timeline where Warren died, and she never stopped breaking time to get him back.

Now, she wanted my life.

---

The Race to the Rift’s Heart

I woke on the floor of the Temple. Velmira and Kael were helping me up.

“She’s gone,” Kael said grimly. “She took Warren.”

“She’s headed for the Heart of the Rift,” Velmira added. “If she merges with him there, she can overwrite every timeline. Take your place. Become the only Eva.”

My breath caught.

“Then I’ll follow her.”

I stood, broken but furious.

“I won’t lose him again.”

Velmira handed me a blade made of memory crystal.

“It will only cut what was. Use it wisely.”

---

Final Scene: At the Edge of Forever

I arrived at the Rift’s Heart just in time.

Elandra stood above Warren’s unconscious body, arms raised, threads of timelines swirling around her like wings.

“You had your chance,” she said coldly. “I deserved this life. I earned his love. Why should you have everything I lost?”

“Because I never tried to erase you,” I said, stepping forward. “But I won’t let you erase me.”

She screamed.

And the battle began.

Chapter 22: The Debt of the Rift

An Ordinary Day... Almost

A week had passed since I awoke in the “new” timeline—a world Warren and I had rewritten with sheer will and a forbidden drop of ancient magic. Everything seemed perfect. Too perfect.

Warren and I were back in school like nothing had ever happened. The students gossiped about prom, not prophecy. Teachers handed out quizzes instead of ancient scrolls. And the ocean stayed calm.

But sometimes I caught glimpses in the mirror—moments when my reflection lingered just a second longer than I did, her expression unreadable.

Something had followed me back.

And it was waiting.

---

A Strange Message

It started with a note in my locker.

No name. No handwriting. Just a piece of black paper, and a single phrase burned into it in silver ink:

> “The Rift does not forget.”

I looked around.

No one.

Warren was waiting for me at the gate, his usual half-smile tugging at his lips, but his eyes flickered with concern when he saw the paper.

“You saw it too,” he said quietly, unfolding an identical note from his pocket.

“We didn’t close it, did we?” I whispered.

He didn’t answer.

Because deep down, we both knew the truth:

We didn’t escape the Rift. We brought it with us.

---

The Phantom Girl

That night, I dreamed of the ocean—but it wasn’t peaceful.

Waves crashed, twisting into staircases that led nowhere. And standing at the shore, her white dress soaked in blood, was a girl with my face.

But her eyes were gold. Burning. Ancient.

“Eva, Eva, Eva,” she sang, voice dripping like poison. “You rewrote the story... but forgot one thing.”

I backed away, heart racing.

“What do you want?”

She smiled—and it wasn’t kind.

> “Your life was never just yours.
You stole mine to save your love.
And now—I’ve come to reclaim it.”

---

The Doppelgänger

I jolted awake, gasping.

It was still dark.

But then I heard it—the sound of my own voice humming from the hallway outside my bedroom.

Slow.

Soft.

Mocking.

I crept toward the door and pulled it open.

And there she was.

Me.

Same eyes. Same hair. Same everything… except for that golden gleam in her gaze and the way her smile curved just slightly too wide.

“I’m not here to hurt you,” she said.

“Then what are you?” I demanded.

She tilted her head. “I’m the version of you that never made the noble choice. The one who didn’t let go of Warren. The Eva who was erased by your rewrite.”

My blood ran cold.

“You’re a shadow,” I whispered.

“No,” she said. “I’m a debt.”

---

Warren’s Disappearance

The next day, Warren didn’t show up to school.

His phone went straight to voicemail.

His house—locked, dark, abandoned.

Panic clawed at my throat.

Then, a second note arrived.

> “He’s with me.
You rewrote him into this world—
Now choose again:
Your love… or your soul.”

The Rift wasn’t done with us.

And now, it wanted payment.

---

The Council of Echoes

Desperate for help, I returned to the Arven ruins—only this time, they weren’t hidden. The sea had shifted again, revealing a massive staircase beneath the waves that led down to a massive chamber glittering with time crystals.

There, I met them—the Council of Echoes.

They were versions of me from other timelines. Warriors. Queens. Healers. Shadows.

All wearing my face.

“You should not have rewritten fate,” one of them said. “The Rift thrives on paradox. And you’ve fed it a feast.”

“But I had to save him,” I said.

Another version of me—the one with a crown of moonlight—stepped forward.

“Then save him again. But this time, you must confront the debt.”

---

The Mirror Duel

I returned to the place where time first broke—Warren’s family’s ancestral estate. It was quiet now, vines crawling over the iron gates like veins.

And inside the grand hall, beneath the shattered chandelier, she was waiting.

My shadow self.

“You can’t win,” she said. “You’re too soft. That’s why Warren’s always in danger.”

“I’m not here to fight you,” I said.

“Then you’ll lose.”

She lunged.

The battle wasn’t physical. It was a war of memory and pain. Every doubt I’d ever had, she used against me. Every fear, every loss. She twisted my guilt into blades and threw them straight at my heart.

But I stood my ground.

“I know who I am,” I said through clenched teeth. “And I didn’t steal your life. I earned mine.”

Then I summoned the last magic I had.

The Oracle’s fragment—the one I had hidden deep in my locket.

It pulsed once.

And my shadow self screamed, unraveling into light and sorrow.

---

The Return of Warren

When the dust settled, I found him—Warren, asleep in the center of the hall.

I ran to him, pulled him into my arms.

He stirred.

“You came for me,” he whispered.

“Always,” I said, tears falling freely.

But even as I held him, I knew it wasn’t over.

Because the Rift had tasted our defiance.

And it would not rest.

---

Ending Note

We walked out of the estate hand in hand, but the sky above shimmered unnaturally, like glass stretched too thin. Time wasn’t healed.

It was simply waiting for its next break.

And far in the distance, deep beneath the ocean…
something else opened its eyes.

Something ancient.

Something older than time itself.

Chapter 21: The Time That Shouldn't Be

The Collapse

The city of Arven, once sleeping beneath the ocean like a forgotten dream, had awakened—and now it was dying. The golden walls cracked like thin glass, and the bioluminescent light that had shimmered so serenely now pulsed in violent stutters, warning us of a greater doom.

Warren stumbled beside me, barely able to stand. I held onto him tightly, the remnants of the Oracle’s magic still glowing faintly beneath my skin.

“We have to move—now,” I said, pulling him toward the spiraling ramp that led up toward the open sea.

But the water was no longer calm.

It churned above, spiraling downward in a whirlpool of time and magic. Echoes of voices—ours, but from other timelines—rang through the ruin like screams caught in a loop.

“I don’t think we’re alone,” Warren said hoarsely.

He was right.

Something ancient had been watching us. And now, it had awakened.

---

The Keeper of Broken Time

As we reached the upper levels of the ruin, a figure emerged from the shadows.

It had no face—only a shimmer of swirling clocks and sand drifting where skin should be. Robes made of woven starlight dragged behind it, and every step it took seemed to slow the crumbling chaos around us.

“The soul was never meant to fuse,” the being said, its voice reverberating with echoes of a thousand lost futures. “You’ve broken the rule. You’ve reawakened a path that should have stayed forgotten.”

I stepped protectively in front of Warren.

“What are you?” I demanded.

“I am the Keeper of Broken Time,” it replied. “And you, Eva, have become a paradox.”

I tightened my grip on Warren’s hand. “I don’t care. I chose him. I chose us.”

The Keeper tilted its head. “And now you must choose again.”

With a flick of its hand, the ruin stopped crumbling.

But time froze.

Warren froze.

The sea around us stilled.

Only I could move.

---

A Deal with Time

The Keeper glided closer.

“Because you defied the balance, the threads of the future have begun to unravel. You fused with a version of yourself that was never meant to return. Now, two timelines exist in one body. And that power will destroy more than just your world.”

I gritted my teeth. “Then undo it.”

“I can’t. But you can.”

It raised a hand, and two visions appeared in the air:

1. A future where I never fused with my shadow self. I return to the surface, normal, forgetful. Warren never wakes. The world remains stable.

2. A future where I keep my powers and stay with Warren. But timelines begin to collapse. Reality bends. The world slowly loses its order—and with it, its peace.

“You may keep him,” the Keeper said, “but the cost is chaos. Or… you may return balance, and lose him forever.”

The air burned with pressure. My heart cracked.

“You’re asking me to choose between love and the world,” I whispered.

“No,” the Keeper said, “I’m asking you to choose who you truly are.”

---

The Unexpected Third Path

Tears spilled from my eyes. I stepped toward Warren, frozen mid-breath. His lips parted as if whispering my name, though no sound came.

I couldn’t lose him.

I wouldn’t.

But I couldn’t let the world fall either.

There had to be another way.

That’s when I remembered the Oracle’s final words:

> “The strongest magic doesn’t choose between light or shadow…
It becomes the storm between them.”

My eyes widened. I still had the Oracle’s vial—its last drop gleamed inside my locket.

I turned to the Keeper.

“What if I create a new timeline—one not written in prophecy or shadow?”

The Keeper tilted its head.

“That is forbidden.”

“But not impossible,” I said, heart pounding. “Let me rewrite fate. Let me create a timeline where we exist without breaking the world.”

Silence.

And then the Keeper extended its hand.

“Then you must enter the Rift.”

---

The Rift of Creation

Beneath the city’s heart lay a shimmering rift—an unstable tear in time that shimmered like molten silver. It called to me like a pulse in my soul.

I placed the vial at its edge.

The ground trembled.

A surge of energy lifted Warren’s frozen form gently into the air, wrapping him in strands of golden thread.

“I’ll rewrite us,” I whispered, stepping into the rift. “I’ll find a way for both love and balance.”

The last thing I saw was Warren’s peaceful smile.

Then—

Darkness.

Light.

A thousand memories exploding at once.

And silence.

---

Eva, Rewritten

I woke up in my room.

Sunlight poured through the curtains.

I sat up, heart racing. No ruins. No rift. No Keeper.

I was… home.

But something was different.

I looked down at my wrist—and saw the obsidian bracelet Warren gave me.

I remembered everything.

And then I heard a knock.

I rushed to the door.

It opened—

And there he was.

Warren.

Smiling.

Alive.

Real.

“You remember too,” he said softly.

I flung my arms around him, laughing and crying.

We had done it.

We had rewritten time.

---

But Time… Never Forgets

As we embraced, far away—beyond the reach of memory and space—the Keeper of Broken Time watched from the void.

And it whispered to itself:

> “They think they’ve won.
But every rewrite leaves a scar.
And the debt must still be paid…”

Chapter 20: The Other Eva

The Descent Beneath the Sea

The ancient ruin wasn't marked on any map, and yet I knew the way as if it had been etched into my soul. With the Oracle’s silver vial still pulsing in my veins, visions guided me—flashes of symbols, Warren’s voice in the dark, and memories that didn’t feel entirely mine.

The waves crashed furiously against the jagged coast as I stood at the edge of a forgotten cliff. There, hidden beneath the ocean, lay the entrance: a stone archway submerged by time, sealed by a spell I once cast... and then forgot.

I pressed the obsidian key—Warren’s crest—into the circular slot at the arch’s center.

The sea trembled.

A roar split the horizon.

And the water parted.

---

The Submerged City of Arven

What waited beneath was more than just a ruin.

It was a kingdom long swallowed by the sea—Arven, the lost city of memory.

Its towers shimmered with eerie, bioluminescent light. The streets pulsed with quiet magic. Fish floated through shattered stained glass windows, and coral wrapped around crumbling statues of forgotten deities.

I walked in a trance, each step taking me closer to something... ancient. I could feel him.

Warren.

He was here.

But so was something else.

A flicker of shadow.

A heartbeat that mirrored mine—but colder.

I wasn’t alone.

---

The Mirror Awakens

In the heart of the city stood a circular hall of mirrors—some cracked, others perfectly clear. In the center was a pool, dark and bottomless.

And there… standing at the edge… was me.

But not me.

Her hair was slicked back in a perfect braid, her eyes ice-blue and lined with kohl. She wore a cloak of starlight and carried herself like a queen who had killed her own emotions to survive.

She turned.

“You finally arrived,” she said with a smirk. “I was wondering how long you’d take.”

“…You’re me,” I whispered.

“I’m who you were meant to become,” she replied. “Before he made you weak.”

I clenched my fists. “Warren didn’t make me weak. He made me strong enough to feel.”

She rolled her eyes.

“He made you soft. You gave up power for a boy. A boy who, by the way, is locked in the vault beneath this city—cryogenically sealed in time so he can’t interfere.”

My heart lurched. “He’s alive?”

“Barely. And he’ll stay that way. Because I won’t let you ruin everything I built just to chase a fairytale.”

---

The War of Selves

She raised her hand, and the mirror walls exploded into motion.

Each pane became a scene—of me in different timelines, different choices. One showed me ruling a nation. Another showed me burning the Hollow to protect Warren. One showed me killing him.

It was too much.

“I’m not like you,” I gasped, stepping back.

“But you are,” she said. “You created me. You split our soul the moment you erased him from your mind and chose ambition instead.”

The ground quaked.

Magic sparked around us—silver versus shadow.

“I’m going to free him,” I said, “even if I have to go through you.”

She smiled, cold and calm. “You’ll try.”

---

Memory vs. Power

We clashed in a storm of light and shadow.

Her power was brutal—mind blasts, temporal bends, reflections that turned into blades.

But I had something she didn’t.

Love.

The memory of Warren’s kiss in the orchard. The warmth of his voice on rainy nights. The promise he whispered when we carved our initials.

Every strike she landed, I answered with a memory.

Until she faltered.

“…Stop,” she whispered, trembling. “Why… why do I remember that?”

“Because you’re still me,” I said. “You still love him. You’re just hiding it.”

She dropped to her knees.

And then she cried.

---

The Shattering

The two of us—light and shadow—stood face to face. And for the first time, I saw not an enemy, but a broken part of myself.

“Help me,” she whispered. “I don’t want to feel nothing anymore.”

I held her hand.

Our bodies began to glow.

The magic that split us... began to fuse.

And we became whole again.

---

The Vault Beneath Arven

The final chamber was carved in gold and obsidian. At its center—encased in crystal, unmoving—was Warren.

He looked peaceful. But his chest rose so faintly it scared me.

I placed my hands on the crystal and whispered the words the Oracle gave me:

> “Memory calls to memory.
Soul calls to soul.
Let love wake what time has stolen.”

The crystal cracked.

Warren gasped—and opened his eyes.

“Eva…?”

Tears poured down my face. “I remember everything. I found you.”

He smiled weakly, lifting a trembling hand to my face.

“I told you… I’d find you too.”

---

But We Weren’t Alone

As I helped Warren out of the vault, the water around us pulsed.

From the shadows of Arven, something stirred.

Something ancient. And furious.

A voice rumbled through the ruin:

> “Two halves have become one.
And the balance of time has been broken.
She was not meant to remember…
Now all will fall.”

The sea trembled.

And behind us, the walls of Arven began to collapse.

Chapter 19: The Memory Oracle

The Hollow’s ruins echoed with whispers—some real, others born from guilt. I walked through the dust of broken columns and shattered stained glass, haunted by a name that no longer belonged to my mind but still carved itself into my chest.

Warren.

A name I couldn’t forget, even if my memories had been taken.

---

The Key Beneath the Floorboards

It began with a dream.

I was in the abandoned chapel, the one no one dared to enter since the fire. A soft voice echoed from the altar, calling me by a name no one had used in years.

“Eva... seeker of what’s lost…”

I awoke with a start, covered in frost.

That same morning, Ivy handed me a wooden box with a cracked lock and a note scribbled in shaking ink.

> If you wish to remember… seek the Oracle.
She dwells where memory bleeds.
You’ll need the key. Look beneath the Chapel floorboards.
—A Friend

A friend?

No one signed notes like that anymore.

Still, I found the courage to return to the chapel. The smell of scorched wood and old incense clung to the walls like ghosts. I pried open the floorboards where the pulpit had once stood and found the key: black obsidian, etched with Warren’s crest.

My hand trembled as I lifted it.

Something stirred in me—a flicker, a flash. A laugh. A kiss.

Gone in an instant.

But it was him.

He wasn’t truly gone.

---

Crossing the Vale of Bleeding Memory

The Oracle’s realm wasn’t marked on any map. It was spoken of only in half-lies and forgotten hymns.

It lay beyond the Vale of Bleeding Memory—a land where time unraveled and thoughts bled into reality. Only those who had forgotten something precious could enter.

I fit the price.

I crossed into the Vale under a moonless sky, guided by fireflies that glowed violet. The further I walked, the more distorted things became. My reflection would shift in every pool of water: one moment I was myself… the next, a stranger with tear-streaked cheeks and Warren’s ring on her hand.

I walked for hours. Or days. Time didn’t work the same here.

Until I reached her.

---

The Oracle of Remnants

She sat on a throne of mirrors, veiled in silver. Her eyes were hollow voids of shifting stars.

“You seek what you willingly gave up,” she said. Her voice echoed like a song and a scream at once.

“I want to remember,” I said, clutching the key. “I want to find him.”

She tilted her head. “The boy who held your heart… the boy you erased.”

“Where is he?” I whispered.

She raised her hand, and the mirrors around her flickered to life.

One showed Warren—older, battle-worn, staring into a fire.

Another showed me… but in a different world. A world where I never met him. Where I was cold, powerful, and utterly alone.

“You split time when you cast the spell,” the Oracle said. “There are now two versions of you. One who chose love. One who chose power.”

My blood ran cold.

“And Warren?” I asked.

“He’s trapped between both timelines,” the Oracle replied. “A soul unanchored. He remembers you… but doesn’t know which version of you to trust.”

My knees buckled. “How do I fix it?”

She handed me a vial filled with silver mist.

“Drink this, and you will see all that was lost. But be warned: memory is not always mercy. And when you remember… your heart may shatter.”

I took it.

And I drank.

---

The Flood of Truth

The memories came crashing in like waves in a storm.

Warren’s kiss beneath the starfall.

The night we carved our initials into the Hollow’s stone wall.

The promise he made before the ritual:

> “If you forget me, I’ll find you. Even if it takes a thousand lifetimes.”

I wept.

Not just for the love I lost… but for the pain I caused him.

And then—one final vision.

A place. An ancient ruin beneath the ocean.

Warren was there.

Alive.

Waiting.

---

A Choice of Timelines

The Oracle looked at me with ancient sorrow.

“You must choose, Eva. Enter the ocean ruin, and try to reach him… but in doing so, your other self—the version who chose power—will awaken. And she… will want to stop you.”

My other self?

There was another me out there?

“She is ruthless. Cold. And she believes Warren makes you weak.”

I swallowed hard. “Then I’ll fight her.”

The Oracle smiled sadly. “You won’t be able to. Because you’ll see yourself in her eyes. And the war… will be against your own soul.”

---

Toward the Ruin

I returned from the Vale with the truth carved into my bones.

Warren was alive.

But so was the version of me who didn’t want him.

And to get him back… I would have to face myself.

Now, I prepare to descend into the ruins beneath the sea—guided by the memory he left behind, and the love I now remember.

But something whispers in the shadows.

A warning.

Or a prophecy.

> To save him
