To anyone who’s struggling lately,

How are you?

I don’t know if someone already asked you this question. If someone did, what did you answer? Did you say the truth? Did you really mean the words you utter? Or just like what you always do, you pretended to be okay again. You hide your vulnerability by trying so hard to sound alright and too far from being not okay. You probably said, “I’m okay”, with much enthusiasm in your voice, as if you didn’t spend the past nights crying in bucket of tears, wondering why you’re still existing. Or what is your purpose here. I could see in your eyes the sadness you have been covering with your fake laughs and pretentious smiles. I could see how you just shrug off the burden in your heart, or the thoughts lurking around inside your head.

Despite you, not saying what you really feel, I know how hard you’re trying each day. I may not know the things you do just to stay still and stay being sane, yet I know the courage you always have to carry each day, believing how this life is still worth the fight. And another chance. I want to say I commend you, not because I want to sugarcoat your pains, but because I could see how brave you are. Choosing to exist is one brave thing to do. And so staying. I’m not here to make you feel I’m just showering you with toxic positivity, but rather I want to say I believe in you, in your highest and lowest points.

And please know that it’s okay to embrace yourself during your downfalls. It’s okay to recognize yourself when you feel like you’re amidst of falling again. It’s okay to say ‘I’m not okay’ and you shouldn’t apologize for it. You have someone here who’ll accept your vulnerability during your weakest days.

I never really had a choice on the person I became.
I went down all the broken roads and fell down so many times, I didn’t know if I would ever get back up sometimes.
When you find all the doors closing and feel disappointment around every corner, you almost stop seeing the good things in your life.
It’s easy to get stuck in all the bad stuff and even easier to wallow in it.
I had a choice..
Either stay in the darkness and accept being miserable, or choose to rise above the struggle and forge an iron will that can’t be broken.
Yes, my wings got clipped for a time.
Yes, I stumbled and fell to my knees.
Yes, I stopped being happy for a while..
But that’s when I remembered who I was and that I was so much more than I had let myself become.
I’m not a failure even though I’ve failed.
I’ve made mistakes but that will never define me.
I’ll stumble and fall, but I won’t stay down- ever.
I found myself in a black abyss that threatened to overwhelm me.
However, that’s not my story.
Yes, it’s one of heartbreak and struggle, a tale of failure and setbacks, but my story is so much more than that.
It’s also full of chapters of fighting back, finding my strength and rising from the ashes.
While I can’t go and change the mistakes of the beginning, I hold the power to rewrite the next chapters and create a happy future.
It may not be the prettiest tale of adventure, love and dreams, but it will always be genuine, authentic and real..
Just like me.
Forget all the negativity that once dragged me down, I’m forging a different direction.
One full of hope, love and dreams that will resurrect my spirit in ways that once, I didn’t think possible.
I know now what I never realized before:
I control my own destiny and it’s up to me where I end up and how.
Now, I’m raising my voice, stoking my passion and spreading my wings like I never did before.
This time, I’m reaching for the stars and never looking back.
My life, my dreams.
Just like me, they’re absolutely strong
and immeasurably beautiful.
