OPERATION: LET THERE BE LIGHT

By: Hon Ifeakachuku Omali

For over a decade, Umukwata-Uno,the ancestral home of Umukwata Kingdom has remained in total darkness following the collapse of electricity supply November 2014, with little hope of restoration.

Today, that long period of blackout is gradually coming to an end as electricity restoration works have officially commenced through the Host Communities Development Trust of the Egbaoma Marginal Field. The hoisting of polls has since begun while cables and the 500KVA has since be delivered to the community.

The project will be executed in two phases. Phase One includes the installation of a 500KVA 33/0.400KV and the extension of 33KV power line to Umukwata-Uno, marking a major step toward reconnecting the community to the national grid.

This achievement further reflects the peaceful and inclusive leadership style of His Royal Majesty, Enyi Friday Odini Abaja. Under his reign, Umukwata Kingdom has remained one of the few oil-host communities where exploration activities have taken place without conflict or bloodshed, contrary to the widespread belief that oil operations in host communities must be accompanied by unrest.

More importantly, the benefits accruing from the God-given mineral resources in the kingdom are being distributed fairly across the entire Umukwata Kingdom, rather than being restricted to a single quarter or community where oil was discovered,a situation that has often created division in many other kingdoms and clans.

Indeed, the light is returning to Umukwata-Uno, bringing with it renewed hope, development, and a brighter future for the people.

Thanks MC Bobito for the video.

AHEAD OF UTÓ FESTIVAL AND 70TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION, ENYI COMMENCES REMEDIAL WORKS ON UTAGBA-UNO ROAD

Ahead of the annual Utó Festival of Umukwata Kingdom and the 70th birthday celebration of HRM Enyi Friday Odini Abaja, the revered monarch has commenced remedial works on the deplorable portions of the Utagba-Uno Road within Umukwata Kingdom to ease the movement of commuters and residents.

For over five years, His Majesty has consistently taken it upon himself to carry out remedial interventions on the road, fully aware of its strategic importance to the people of Ukwuani and other road users who ply the route daily, while awaiting the intervention of relevant government agencies.

As the Ukwuani people would say, “Wé Dokume Mgbo Neche Okochi,” meaning “you prepare the fish pond ahead of the next season.” This timeless saying reflects the proactive leadership and foresight of the monarch in ensuring that the people do not suffer neglect while waiting for government response.

The intervention did not stop at the road repairs alone. The collapsed portion of the Ogbe-Church Street gutter is also currently receiving urgent attention under the directive of His Majesty.

It is noteworthy that since the construction of the Umukwata-Uno internal drainage system and interlock roads in 2010, HRM Enyi Friday Odini Abaja has remained committed to maintaining the infrastructure by personally intervening anytime any section collapses or deteriorates.

The continuous intervention of the monarch has once again demonstrated his unwavering love for his people, his commitment to community development, and his determination to sustain infrastructure that directly impacts the daily lives of residents and visitors to Umukwata Kingdom.

ACCEPTANCE SPEECH BY HIS ROYAL MAJESTY FRIDAY ODINI ABAJA ON THE AWARD OF HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

Your Excellency,

The Vice-Chancellor, distinguished members of the Governing Council and Senate of Delta State University,

Esteemed faculty, honoured guests, ladies and gentlemen,

I stand before you today with a heart filled with gratitude, humility, and a deep sense of honour as I accept this prestigious Doctorate Degree in Business Administration.

This recognition, bestowed upon me by the esteemed governing body of Delta State University, is one I do not take lightly. I am profoundly grateful to the Governing Council, the Senate, and the entire academic community for finding me worthy of such distinction. Your confidence in my modest contributions to education and community development is both humbling and inspiring.

As a traditional ruler, I receive this honour not for myself alone, but on behalf of my kingdom and my people. In our culture, we say, “one hand does not lift a heavy load.” Whatever we have achieved in advancing education, empowering our youth, and fostering community growth has been through collective effort and shared vision.

Education remains the greatest pillar upon which any progressive society is built. It has always been my firm belief that when you educate a child, you empower a generation. This belief has guided my commitment to supporting initiatives that nurture knowledge, discipline, and leadership.

However, as we celebrate progress, we must also reflect with sincerity. There is still much to be done. I respectfully call on our political leaders and policymakers to do more in raising and improving the standard of education within the state and across our nation. Education must never be treated as an afterthought, but as the very foundation of sustainable development.

We must also confront the reality that corruption has, over time, hindered meaningful progress and impacted negatively on the quality of education in our state and in Nigeria at large. When resources meant for education are not properly utilized, it is the future of our children that is placed at risk. Therefore, there must be a renewed commitment to accountability, transparency, and integrity in all matters concerning education.

I therefore wish to assure this great institution, Delta State University, of my continued support and partnership. As a beneficiary of this honour, I consider it both a privilege and a duty to contribute to the growth, development, and advancement of the university. Together, we shall continue to uphold education as a beacon of hope and transformation.

To the students, I encourage you to remain focused and steadfast. The journey to greatness is not without its trials, but perseverance, discipline, and integrity will always lead to honour. Let your knowledge not only elevate you but also serve your communities and our nation.

As I accept this honour today, I am reminded that leadership is a call to greater responsibility. I recommit myself to the service of humanity, to the promotion of education, and to the continuous development of our communities.

Once again, I extend my deepest appreciation to the governing body and the entire management of Delta State University for this distinguished honour.

May this great institution continue to flourish and remain a shining light of excellence.

Thank you, and may God bless you all.
