Who buys an ₦8,000 bag under an umbrella? I pretended not to hear her but that sentence followed me home.😭
Few years ago I was selling handbags under an umbrella… Nothing fancy, just me doing my business and trying to survive..
While in that hot sun, I haven’t made sales in a week and all i was hoping for was just one customer and then two ladies came and i was sooo excited.
One asked for price and i think it was around 7/8k and she looked at me with a dlsgusting look,
how dare you sell this kind of price here? She then said to her friend;instead of her to buy a bag here she would rather go to a boutique to buy that price. she said it so loud that i could hear.. ,she hissed and threw the bag at me.
I looked at her and smiled But when they left, something broke inside me.
Not because they didn’t buy, people are actually free to buy or not buy.
But because she judged my worth by my location., If life was convenient you wont see me on the road selling but i kept all the shame and came out. Yet you didn’t see it but choose to insult me because the price didn’t favour you.
The truth is, many people see where you are and assume that’s all you’ll ever become.
They laugh at the beginning because they can’t see the ending.
What she didn’t know was that behind that umbrella was a girl fighting for a better life.
A girl refusing to give up.
Even if you feel the price was too much why not just walk away? Must you say something?
There was a time people were ashamed to buy from me.
But Today, by God’s grace, Peachy’s Collections Outlet has grown beyond that umbrella.
Today, many women proudly shop with us…today, the same dream that looked small to some people has become a reality.
And as I think about this journey, my heart is filled with gratitude.
Because while some people looked down on me, Many others lifted me up.
