If I had a 2-year-old, these are the 5 toys I would choose.
At this age, children are starting to do things with intention. They want to sort, build, match, cut, and figure out how the world works. Here’s what I’d put on the shelf:
🟡 Grimm’s Thread Game (Bobbins) — color sorting, threading, and deep focus work. Simple materials, serious concentration.
🟠 Djeco Magnetic Fishing Game : hand-eye coordination, their first real game with another person, and that satisfying click every single time.
🟢 KLYV First Knife : real kitchen independence. Fine motor, grip strength, and they actually want to eat what they cut.
🪨 Yellow Door Seashore Tactile Stones : every texture is different. Sparks vocabulary naturally and works in sand, water, playdough - endless setups.
🔵 Wooden Sound Prisms : training the ear. Matching without seeing, pure listening focus. The toy nobody talks about but every 2-year-old needs.

Your toddler isn’t acting out. They’re acting their age. 🧡

The meltdown over the “wrong” cup. The refusal to put on shoes. The sudden, very loud opinions about everything.

It’s not defiance. It’s development.

At this age, their world is expanding faster than their words can keep up. Big feelings, small tools to manage them - that’s the toddler experience. And it makes complete sense.

What helps? Space to move, play that lets them feel in control, and a little grace for both of you.

That’s what we think about with every toy we choose.

You’re not doing it wrong. You’re just in the thick of it and that’s okay. 💛

If I had a 1-year-old, these are the 5 toys I would choose.

At this age, children are learning through their hands, their senses, and repetition. Every grab, every bang, every drop, it all matters. Here’s what I’d put on the shelf:
🟡 Grimm’s 30 Geo Blocks — different shapes, sizes and weights to explore. Pure sensorial play, no instructions needed.
🟠 Grimm’s Sorting Board + Rainbow Balls — place it in, take it out, repeat. Color matching comes later — for now, it’s all about the hand-eye coordination and the joy of fitting things together.
🌿 Schleich Farm Animals — realistic, detailed, and perfect for early vocabulary work. “This is a cow. The cow says moo.” Simple, powerful, child-led.
🩷 Goki Catch the Mouse — hammer the ball in, watch the mouse pop out. Cause and effect at its most satisfying. They will do this 47 times in a row, and every single time counts.
🔵 Grimm’s Rainbow Blocks — open-ended building that grows with your child. No right or wrong way to play.
