A different kind of cacao story 🤎 I spoke with Shanour from (who recently moved their cacao atelier to Osdorp) about their newest cacao drink: Lavado from Mexico.
“Lavado” literally means washed, and that’s exactly what makes this cacao unique. Instead of undergoing fermentation, the beans are gently washed and dried. This preserves more of the cacao’s natural compounds, flavonoids and more antioxidants!
Shanour shared his perspective on what “ceremonial” really means:
🔸️No mysticism required.
🔸️No performance.
For him, it’s simple: taking a moment for yourself, with real intention. That could be cacao, but just as easily tea or even a glass of water. The ritual is yours. Sit down, have a piece of moment for yourself, set your intentions and enjoy.
What sets this cacao, and Shanour's way of working apart is its origin. The cacao comes through transparent, close-knit relationships with farmers, cooperatives, and social enterprises.
All cacao is Single Origin and grown in biodiverse 🌱 environments, and every step, from bean to block, is done by hand. Literally. Every bean passes through his hands.
