For as long as they have been pumping water out of the lands in Holland, they have been building canals for travel, irrigation, and water removal. The famous canals of Amsterdam were a result of good city planning (to keep our Dutch friends’ heads above water), and easily serve as additional streets for transportation. Leiden and Delft were also designed with canal transportation in mind. These days, not only are there canal buses that navigate the waterways, but restaurant boats, houseboats, and all manner of other boat types frequent these often semi-circular canals. As a nice touch of resourcefulness, the outer canals surrounding the city served as a kind of moat to protect the city from foreign invaders.

Keukenhof is a wonderful place for flower lovers. The earlier in the day you get there the better. As tons of people visit this place everyday. These beautiful gardens and fields surrounding it are blooming. One of Holland's best attractions for adults and children alike. There are lots of places for resting and food for play and a nice festive atmosphere on a bright day. Does not disappoint - a must see if you are in Amsterdam between March and May.

Keukenhof is a park to enjoy! However you can also get inspiration from the park for your own house and garden. In the Inspirational gardens there are gardens displaying current trends. Get ideas in the Insect garden, fall in love in the Romantic garden, take fantastic photos in the Amsterdam garden en enjoy the Selfie garden. The park Keukenhof is open from 20 March - 17 May 2015 from 08.00 - 19.30. The ticket office is open from 08.00 - 18.00.
