30,000 liters of iceberg water, destined for production of vodka, stolen in Canadian village

A remarkable theft is being investigated on the Canadian island of Newfoundland. About 30,000 liters of valuable iceberg water were stolen from storage tanks in the coastal town Port Union. The water was stored for the production of vodka. What the thieves want is a mystery.

Iceberg water is very popular for its purity and is considered to be the cleanest in the world. It is used for those reasons for the production of spirits and cosmetic products or sold in luxury bottles. The London warehouse Harrods sold melted iceberg water from an iceberg on the Norwegian island Spitsbergen in 2017. A liter cost no less than 80 pounds, or 95 euros....

Worth thousands of euros
According to the federal police of Canada, stolen water from Port Union has a street value of between 9,000 and 12,000 Canadian dollars (converted between 6,000 and 8,000 euros). The enormous quantity would have been stolen with a tank truck or a trailer.

According to an employee of a company that processes iceberg water, the water can become polluted during transport, making it largely worthless. "Jesus, what are they going to do with it?", he told a Canadian television channel.

,,We were shocked, stunned. 'Seriously, did someone steal our water?', we thought", said the CEO of Iceberg Vodka Canada to a local newspaper. ,,It has never happened before. We guard this water as a precious commodity, because we only harvest water once a year, so it's really important to us."

The producer assured that the production will not be compromised. Lovers of Iceberg Vodka can therefore sleep peacefully.
