The Real Ghostbusters is pure late-1980s toy madness: strange ghosts, exaggerated action features, bright colors and some of the weirdest monster designs Kenner ever made.

Based on the animated series that followed the 1984 movie, Kenner turned Ghostbusters into a full toy universe filled with haunted monsters, transforming creatures and bizarre gimmicks.

That is what made the line stand out. Figures had popping eyes, opening mouths, hidden faces, stretching parts and glow-in-the-dark details. The ghosts were not just side characters either. Many became some of the most memorable toys in the entire line.

Looking back now, this line shows just how creative 1980s toy design could be. Skeletons, werewolves, mummies, vampires, bug monsters, haunted humans and giant snapping jaws all existed in the same toyline.

Did you know? Kenner had several unreleased Real Ghostbusters concepts planned near the end of the line, including Egon’s Lab. Prototype images still exist today, making it one of the most interesting “what could have been” pieces from the entire toyline.

For collectors today, completeness is a big challenge. Small accessories, companion ghosts, action parts and removable pieces are often missing, especially on heavily played-with figures like these.

Weird, creative and completely unmistakable, The Real Ghostbusters remains one of Kenner’s most original toy lines of the 1980s.

A real quick and rushed update, because over the last couple of days we’ve had so many cool collections come into the shop.

But as soon as I put them in the displays, they’re gone.

Sometimes I wish I could enjoy them just a little bit longer, but then I know they’re going to a good home, where they’ll be appreciated — maybe even a bit more.

Still, I don’t want you to miss out, so here’s a very quick update on some of the stuff we got in.

“Huh? Oh, sorry Michel! I was totally glued to the brand-new issue of Level 80 magazine !”

“This mag is totally bodacious — packed with killer 80s nostalgia, retro toys, cartoons, arcade games, collectibles… and even some friends of ours made it in!”

“So don’t touch that dial! Rush over to our shop and grab your copy today before they disappear faster than a Saturday morning cartoon!”

Level 80 Magazine — totally tubular from cover to cover!

Our BIGGEST batch yet?!!

Time for part 2. The haul keeps going.

We picked up so many carded action figures this time, it might be the biggest haul we’ve had so far. With so many toys coming in from other pickups, we didn’t even have time to open this second box yet.

So now it’s finally time to see what’s inside.

SilverHawks is pure late-1980s science fiction: chrome-covered heroes, strange villains, weapon-birds, and a toy line that still feels unique today.

The series was created by Rankin/Bass as a space-age follow-up to ThunderCats. Both shows share a lot of DNA, from the animation style and voice acting to the music and overall structure. In many ways, SilverHawks feels like the space-age counterpart to ThunderCats.

The cartoon launched in 1986, and Kenner brought the toy line to shelves in 1987. The concept was simple but strong: a team of partly cybernetic heroes, “partly metal, partly real”, sent to the Galaxy of Limbo to stop Mon*Star and his criminal mob.

What made the toys stand out was the chrome-style finish. On the shelf, they looked completely different from most other action figures of the era. The same finish that made them look so impressive is also what makes them difficult for collectors today. The surface scratches and wears easily, so finding clean vintage SilverHawks figures with good chrome, original wings and correct companion pieces is becoming harder.

Most figures came with a companion bird or creature, such as Tally-Hawk, Stronghold, May-Day, Shredator and Sky-Shadow. These small accessories are a big part of the line’s identity, and also one of the reasons complete examples are harder to find now.

One of the more unusual details from the cartoon is The Limbo Band, led by Bluegrass. It was a fictional in-universe band, not a real band outside the series, but the show did include actual musical performances, which was unusual for an action cartoon and adds even more late-80s character to SilverHawks.

The toy line itself was short-lived, but it left a strong impression. With its metallic heroes, strange villains, weapon-birds, space vehicles and very specific 80s design language, SilverHawks remains one of Kenner’s most distinctive vintage lines.

This morning kicked off with a bang! We’ve just acquired an incredible collection of toys you don’t see come up very often—especially not in these numbers. If you’re a fan of Ghostbusters, Bravestarr, SilverHawks, Thundercats, Street Sharks, or Masters of the Universe, you’ll definitely want to take a look.

We’ll be busy in the warehouse for the next few days getting everything sorted and ready for you—stay tuned!

So it was that time of year again: a proper spring clean of the attic.

Toys had been piling up, and there was barely any space left to move around. So we finally cleared out the trash, rearranged everything, grouped things properly, cleaned up, and made the space workable again.

Not the most glamorous part of collecting, but definitely a necessary one.

King’s Day was good to us again this year. We didn’t even go full throttle, but still managed to pick up a few interesting pieces here and there.

What continues to surprise me is how, when I run into other hunters on the same street, they’ve picked up completely different items that we somehow missed. It really is sensory overload. There’s so much happening at once that your brain simply can’t process everything.
The atmosphere on the streets, the people, the kids playing their first “concerts,” the quirky little games people come up with, and the badly cooked food you somehow end up eating — it all becomes part of the day.

And then there’s the haggling. Some people ask way too much, while others ask way too little. At that point, you sometimes just have to give a little extra. I’m not going to pay 60 cents for a G.I. Joe or Turtle from dad’s old toy box, if you know what I mean.

Most of what we find is in played condition, but that’s not really the point. It’s about being out there, walking around, meeting people, digging through boxes, and having fun.

That’s what makes King’s Day toy hunting so good.
Hope you had just as much fun as we did.
