World War 2 USAAF Uniform Grouping to Lt. Walter Gilbert from Clinton, Iowa who flew 30 missions in Italy for the 12th Air Force, 310th Group, 428th Bombardment Squadron. The 428th Bombardment Squadron was one of the squadrons of the 310th Bombardment Group. The squadron flew with North American B-25 Mitchell medium bombers.

The squadron engaged primarily in air support and interdiction in Tunisia, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Italy and Southern France. Through May 1943, it also attacked shipping and harbor facilities to cut the logistics lines of the Afrika Corps.

On 27 August 1943, the squadron conducted a mission against marshalling yards in Benevento, Italy. Despite heavy antiaircraft artillery, it effectively bombed the target and destroyed several enemy interceptor aircraft making persistent attacks. For this action, it was awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation (DUC). From August 1943 to the end of hostilities in the spring of 1945, it struck German lines of communication, bridges, rail lines, marshalling yards, viaducts, tunnels and road junctions in Italy. From January through June 1944, it gave air support to ground forces in the drive toward Rome. The squadron also engaged in psychological warfare missions, dropping propaganda leaflets behind enemy lines.

In August 1944, it supported Operation Dragoon, the invasion of southern France from its base in Ghisonaccia Airfield, Corsica. On 10 March 1945, the squadron maintained close formation in the face of severe antiaircraft fire in successfully attacking the railroad bridge at Ora, a vital link in the German supply line to Italy. For this action, it was awarded its second DUC. In April 1945, it moved to Italy and was inactivated in theater in September 1945.

The set is complete with his uniform jacket featuring a fantastic hand-embroidered 12th Air Force patch, trousers, shirt, tie, and overseas cap. The tunic is dated May 1942. The set also includes a whole series of original aerial photographs taken during the missions Walter flew over Italy, showing bombing raids on tactical points in Northern Italy. Interesting original Grouping!

We just listed this Wehrmacht (Heer) NCO's M36 Field Blouse (Feldbluse M36) and stone grey trousers as intended for an 'Oberfeldwebel der Infanterie'. Both the Field Blouse and Stone Grey Breeches are marked with depot code 'M39' (1939). This set originates from the collection of the former Eyewitness Museum and was in display in the diorama shown in this photo.

Luftwaffe 'R.L.M.' Stopwatch (Stoppuhr). When dropping a bomb from a plane the deciding factors are the fall characteristics of the bomb, the flight altitute and the speed of the aircraft. These are best attained by measuring the time it takes to fly over a defined strech of land, measured between two points. Stopwatches are needed for this task. These stop watches were part of the bomb targeting device 'Görz' and other air force devices. The stop watch is maker marked by 'Joh. Hartmann' from Berlin. The stopwatch is having a Minerva Calibre 19 movement and is in functional and running condition, it is 'R.L.M.' (Reichsluftfahrtministerium) marked on the back. Wonderful authentic WW2 Timepiece!

WH (Heer) 'Panzer' NCO's Visor Cap (Schirmmütze) with award Document and shoulder straps. The grouping is named to Unteroffizier 'Otto Ellinger' who was a member within the Stabskompanie I./Panzer-Regiment 3. The Panzer-Regiment 3 was an important armored unit of the 2. Panzer-Division, serving as a primary armored spearhead in Normandy (1944). Equipped heavily with Panther tanks, the regiment engaged in intense defensive combat against British and Canadian forces near Caen and in the Falaise Pocket in which the regiment was largely destroyed. Great and scarce original named Panzer NCO's Visor Cap grouping!

German 'Panzerfaust 60' Launching Tube (Rohr). The Panzerfaust was a portable, single-shot anti-tank weapon developed by N**i Germany during World War II. It was the first light, single-use anti-tank weapon based on a preloaded, disposable launching tube. The Panzerfaust design consisted of a light, recoilless launch tube with a single, preloaded, high-explosive anti-tank warhead protruding from the barrel. It was an inexpensive, user-friendly anti-tank weapon for the ordinary infantryman, intended for use by a single person. The metal tube remains a fair amount of its original ordnance tan coloured paind and some red markings. The various distances in the flip-up sight are still clearly visible. Rare original item in good used condition!
