Marie has been weaving for over a decade, creating beautiful scarves and stoles with fine fibres such as cashmere, silk, baby camel, merino wool and linen. She weaves on both her Louët Jane and David III, exploring colours, materials and intricate weaving structures. ✨😍
Today, we’re sharing some of her beautiful creations:
My name is Marie-Claude Buraux and I live in Marly-le-Roi, a small town west of Paris.
Weaving has been part of my life for over a dozen years. Trained as an engineer, I've always maintained, alongside my professional career, a deep textile practice, fuelled by continuous learning and a technical curiosity for structures, materials, and gesture.
I work with fine fibres, such as cashmere, silk, baby camel, merino wool and linen, chosen for their softness, drape and durability. I regularly use fibres that have been hand-dyed using traditional methods, for the richness of their shades and the subtle variations they bring to the fabric.
The patterns and weaves take shape in the workshop, emerging from research informed by textile traditions, studied designs and observation: landscapes, textiles, images, and materials first inspire the work with colour, before being reinterpreted through the interplay of threads, materials and scales.
To weave my scarves and stoles, I work alternately on two Louët looms, a Jane and a David III. The David lets me weave repetitive weave structures at a fast, steady pace. The Jane, meanwhile, is ideal for complex structures involving many combinations. It also lets me easily test variations, a real asset for prototyping.
