There are many different ways to wind your guitar strings around the tuning pegs. This is mainly due to personal preference, but also due to the different types of tuning pegs available and due to the different types of guitars (some stay better in tune than others).

Ideally you want the strings to start locking themselves as soon as you start winding them up. One of the methods to achieve this is by wrapping the string in a knot around the tuning peg, as you can see on this photo. Because of the knot the string will lock itself in place, allowing it to stay in tune for a longer period of time.

Other ways to lock the strings are by using locking mechanisms, such as the Floyd Rose system, or like the lockdown tuners from and (amongst others).

The classic "Gibson style"- bridge has some pros and cons.

For those who ay heavy handed there's a higher "break angle", which means that simply placing the strings through the bridge creates a certain angle on the strings which will increase the risk of breaking the strings.

The two most common ways of reducing this risk is to either jack up the bridge to a higher position, which will create less of an angle on the strings. The other most common way is to wrap the strings around the bridge, also leading to a smaller angle.

Some say that the latter option (wrapping the strings around the bridge) also adds resonance, because the strings have a bigger "contact point" with the metal bridge. I'm not sure if that is fact or fiction...

Been working on this bass today. Cleaned the electronics, cleaned the entire guitar, oil'd the fretboard (it was a bit dry) gave it a full setup and resolved some fretbuzz. All using tools. Another happy customer!

A project we did last summer. This satin black Jazzmaster got sanded down to its beautiful natural mahogany finish. Lemon oil was then applied to give it this beautiful natural stain. Once the body work was done we took out the 81 and 60 combo, removed the entire active circuitry and replaced it with a new volume pot, new (passive) wiring and a set of Burstbucker Pro pickups. We've also added grounding to the bridge as that was missing.
