A tattoo can be read as a collection of images.

Or as one complete composition.

That difference matters.

In Shane Tan’s work, the body is never simply a place to put individual motifs. Back, shoulders, legs, negative space, direction and weight all have to work together.

Step back, and the relationship between those decisions becomes clearer.

That is one of the reasons we wanted Shane Tan – The Complete Collection to show the work at this scale: not only to see what was tattooed, but to study how the whole body is used.

Composition.
Flow.
Balance.
Impact.

The details draw you in.
The complete piece teaches you how they belong together.

Reference does not need to wait for the perfect studio moment.

Take it outside. Open it on a park bench. Spend a few minutes following a line, studying a turn, or noticing how the same dragon can carry its weight in a completely different way.

Daily Dragon Sketches follows Bill Canales through a full year of daily practice. Not finished illustrations, but sketches that preserve the thinking as it happened — movement, structure, changes, notes, and all.

Books made to stay close.
At the drawing table, on the train, or somewhere under the trees.

A whole year can fit inside one bag.

Four folders.
365 original paintings.
Countless hours at the table.

These photographs show Tattoo Flash 365 Vol. 2 before it becomes a finished edition: Adrián De La Fuente at work, followed by the complete physical archive gathered together for the next stage.

This is where our work as publishers begins.

We study the originals closely — the paper, colour, scale, sequence, and changes in rhythm across the year. Then we begin shaping 365 separate paintings into one book without losing the energy of the work as it was made.

From the artist’s table to the printed page.

Not simply reproducing an archive.
Building a book that does it justice.

Tattoo Flash 365 Vol. 2 is now open for pre-order through Kintaro.

More from the making soon.

A useful image does not need to be crowded.

A bird on a branch.
A flowering white peony.
Enough open space for both to breathe.

In this colour woodblock print by Ohara Koson, the strength is not only in the subjects themselves. It is in the relationship between them: movement and stillness, detail and restraint, line and empty paper.

The bird gives the composition direction.
The peony gives it weight.
The space around them allows the image to hold together.

That is why prints like this remain valuable to artists.

They offer more than motifs. They show how placement, rhythm, and restraint can carry an image without unnecessary noise.

Study the relationship, not only the subject.

One page. One day. One decision to keep drawing.

Dated June 16, this dragon study still carries the construction lines, changes, and handwritten notes of the original sketch.

That is what makes Daily Dragon Sketches – Spring useful as reference.

These are not polished final artworks. They are daily studies that let you follow Bill Canales’ thinking through line, movement, structure, and variation.

You see how the body turns, where the weight sits, how the head connects to the movement, and how an idea develops directly on the page.

Strong reference should not give you an image to repeat.

It should sharpen your eye and help you make stronger decisions of your own.

365 paintings can sound like a number.

Four full folders make the work behind it visible.

These are the original paintings created by Adrián De La Fuente over the course of another year of daily practice — organised month by month, from January through December.

Before they become printed pages, we spend time with them as a physical archive: studying the sequence, comparing the work, noticing recurring ideas, and deciding how the rhythm of an entire year should move through a book.

The edges, marks, paper, and sheer thickness of the folders tell part of that story too.

This is the stage before design, printing, and binding.

Before this becomes a published book, it exists like this.

These are the two original travel journals painted by Gustavo D’Onofrio and Alberto Sagripanti
— the actual objects at the heart of the project we are now developing together.

Every page carries more than the artwork alone: the sequence, paper, scale, margins, small imperfections, and traces left by the process of making it.

Our task is not simply to scan the paintings and place them into a new book.

It is to understand what makes these journals feel alive — and decide how much of that original character should remain visible in the final edition.

The page turns matter.
The rhythm matters.
Even the wear around the edges matters.

This is part of building a book carefully: returning to the source before making decisions about format, reproduction, paper, and design.

We are still at the beginning, and we will keep sharing the process as the project develops.

When you open a book like this, would you rather see each artwork presented cleanly on its own — or still feel the presence of the original journal?

A tote bag is only a tote bag until it starts collecting stories.

From time to time, we spot a Kintaro tote somewhere out in the world. Recently, one passed us at Firenze train station. Before we could say hello, it disappeared into the crowd.

The carrier was never found again.

This time, we know exactly who is carrying it: our friend and tattooer .wauters, outside the new Antwerp studio of our friends at .catharina.tattoo — where Freddie is now working too.

So here is our small summer invitation:

Take your Kintaro tote with you. To the studio, the beach, the market, a train platform, or somewhere we would never expect.

Show us where it goes and what you are carrying. Books, sketchbooks, swimming gear, groceries — whatever belongs to your summer.

Tag us so we can follow the bag.

Before the pages, there is the artist.

Adrián De La Fuente.

The hand, the eye, and the discipline behind Tattoo Flash 365.

Painting every day changes the way you see.
It sharpens decisions.
It creates rhythm.
It turns repetition into a language of its own.

Adrián completed one year of daily painting.

Then he kept going.

We have been spending a great deal of time with what came next.

More soon.
